I second the spore idea. Even if they don't drop a heavy print, it doesn't take many spores to get up and running.

Damn I found some today but put it all to dry already... I do have two other clones that I started two days ago. would you say a spore swab is easier than cloning?

IMO, swabbing some spores is easier than cloning. Expect to transfer from the germ plate within a day of seeing growth. Your T1 plates will hopefully be clean. Just as you've been doing already, take a few or more transfers from different locations.
I've seen some people use one plate for a few sectors, but I just use jars instead of petri dishes, so I have at least a dozen agar jars ready to go at any time.
That's awesome you can hunt them where you live! I would hunt for some again tomorrow and try some printing as well.
When I was first getting started, I tried doing everything, to get practice and to help my chances of success.

Got these Pan germ plates looking pretty good. Left them a little too long as I was out of town so I'll be making the T1s tomorrow.

Germ plates here as well, 6 month old spores germinated on LME agar first visible growth after 5 days. Tried lower nutes on this one (1% LME / 1.8% agar) and it worked fine.

Yep tomorrow is SAB day, always waiting for some stuff to accumulate so I don't whip out the box for just one things. Inoculating some grain with wood lovers, plating some zapotecorum spores and maybe noc up some LC as well if I can get the jars in the PC early enough.

Time won't tell unless I change my mind. I have way too many projects atm and way too little resources to fruit this. I mostly wanted to see if the spores were still viable.

I just got back from doing some picking. Picking up horse turds that is!
This is all aged some, but I'm going to leave it in the backyard to continue aging a bit more.

Successsssssss!
Ok Pan crew. Sorry for the long post but I FINALLY, after years and more attempts than I care to admit, have gotten pans to pin! Naturally this happened 2 days into a 6 day trip that I had to take and I was not able to be home to dial in FC to make sure I neither drown nor fry these pins. I have numerous trays in different stages of development and the first ones to pin stalled out already. I don't know if they were too wet or too dry.
So the good news is that I have a bunch more trays that *just* pinned supposedly and I am back and can dial this shiznit in hopefully. They all more or less look like this:

The variety is Rainbow Eucalyptus. The black pins are freaky... some mature to an interesting green but like I said most of the pins stay black. Surfaces are definitely looking dry so I am thinking I need to go the way of syringe watering despite my best efforts to emulate a "Jartha". I have a cycle timer sucking air out the bottom every 15 minutes for about 5 mins or maybe 3. There is not cycle timer on the mister but I set the offset to 25 so that it will go down to 75% humdity before kicking on and coming back up to 100% until the exhaust fan kicks on again. This seemed to work well enough to get them to pin but I thinkn its too dry now so I have no offset and humidity set to 95%:

So how do I salvage this grow??!!
I am going to syringe water for now since that will at least keep them from drying out.
Any ideas on what might have stalled them out? Too much humidity when the mister kicked on? Too dry?
Sub is I think 60 / 40 hpoo / straw in all cases with some variants in some trays. Spawn:sub is 1:2 for the first ones to pin and then 1:3 or 1:4 for the ones I want to save. I know now that 1:4 would be best.
Any idea how to dial in the RH up and down to keep them happy? Desperate to make this work!!! So bummed I could not dance around my house when these pinned but I am back and I am dancin I tells ya! Thanks to everyone here for all the info I have absorbed over the past few years. I am succeeding because of you and sorry for the LONG ass post.

Damn that was a nice set too. Probably enough aborts to dose though.
Ime with pans the answer is always too dry.
I had pins happily growing out of small puddles one tub when I had to leave town for a couple days and left the fog on a little high just to be safe. Turned out to be higher than I thought and partially flooded the casing but they still flushed decently and went back to normal after I dialed it back.

That might answer my next question which is... what to do with the aborts? Salvage whatever I can is part of the answer but can I get these to flush again? Scrape and recase?
Does black pins mean aborts for sure or do the RE pin black and turn green?
Right now, the caps of the pins are glossy so it seems the RH is high enough but I just turned it down. Maybe I should turn it up is what I am hearing.
Thinking about these hydro bubblers I keep hearing about but I am not sure how those would work in a 48" x 60" 18" GH. Anyone tried that?
Sigh... and yes the pin sets look really good. I am sad but I have at least gotten them to pin!!! Progress is progress

LeftSideDriver, I'm going to suggest the possibility that what you're seeing is a result of strange genetics. I've been working with Rainbow Eucalyptus and those small blackish fruits look very familiar. I've had trays where they formed stunted dwarf fruits and others that developed into mature fruits with bizarre phenotypes. Some trays gave a mixture of normal fruits and the black dwarf fruits. Both of the phenotypes below came from the same print:

I would run a few more cultures and see what you get.

Hey everyone! I’m planning on building a JCM FC pretty soon and I’m trying to figure out if I can use this old Rena 400 aquarium air pump I already have. It pushes 266Lph which is about 70Gph. Is that way too little for a 66qt tub? According to my math my pump would provide 4 air exchanges per hour which theoretically should be enough for Pans. However JCM’s TEK calls for 2 pumps that combined push about 500Gph, so its far less than that. I’d love any thoughts you all have!
