The photos in this thread are unreal. Someone shill me on pans so I finally go out and buy some spores. Do you find cultivation easier/harder than cubes?

A little harder but not much. It just takes a minute to learn what they like which can be weird when you’re used to cubes.

They can be a little more demanding on the fruiting stage, but plenty of people have fruited them in simple ways!

My SS from SW's (fuck abbreviations...), went to agar and I had like 50 fucking transfers and nothing took to grain.
Grabbed some "wild coast" and off of T1 I knew I was in the clear. Pans are amazingly fast, and fun to watch just throw off fruits in "waves".
Need to get this estero cleaned up to see what differences are in strains.

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on my first attempts at pan cyans.
The first attempt I made was to follow the tek where you mix uncolonized grains into your substrate and sterilize it in a mycobag then inject it with a rather large quantity of LI. I did that on two mycobags and while I saw some colonization, the bags only got to about 70% colonized after a month so I tossed them out.
I also made two oat jars using the same tek I have used successfully many times for cubes. After three weeks they still aren't fully colonized and one of them looks odd to me. Some of the oats have turned dark in color BUT they don't have that slimy look to them like I would normally see in a jar that has gone bacterial. They aren't really wet or mushy, just have the outer husks turned a darker color. I'm wondering if this still means bacterial, or if it's just something the pan cyan mycelium can do? The photos below are of all four sides of one of my jars. Also lower in the post, you can see some of my plates and I have noticed some brown rings or areas as well so this is also causing me to wonder if the brown coloration of some of the oats could just be due to how the pan cyan mycelium reacts to oats.

I have a handful of plates that look clean, and some of them actually pinned in the plate which I found surprising. I cloned two of the pins from the plates and here is what those grew out to look like. I think these look pretty good yeah? I took two transfers from each of these and if the growth of those looks good, I'll knock up some more jars.
This last plate is a T1 from an earlier plate. I'm posting it because of the brown ring on it, which most of my pan plates have, especially as they get old. You can see pins forming on this plate as well.

Do you have any other advice for me on how to be successful with pan cyans in the stages PRIOR to fruiting stage?

I’ve had the same issue. All other prints from this guy seemed ok but struggled with these ones and also with syringes straight to grain from another guy. They almost always looked different from any other MS to grain jars or print to agar.
Maybe a different agar recipe or antibiotic could be helpful who knows..

Thanks for all the pics. Jakeoncid419 - is that a brown ring I see on the bottom right plate? Similar to mine maybe?

Man, Asura, the WCRS is looking aggresive! It looked a little slower then the NecD I had on agar, and didn't fill the LC up with the same vigour, but now I have it injected into a pan-cake its going to town!
