Has anyone done subs really heavy on straw?
I ran out of HP and had to make half my sub with 50% of what's in JCMs recipe. So it's like 4:1 straw to HP by dry volume. But it is absolutely exploding compared to the stuff that followed the recipe. The bag colonized much quicker (I spawned to a myco bag like jcm does), and was super white, very solidly colonized. It's been one day since laying to trays, and the surface is already looking exactly like it did in the bag.

I had the same experience with straw heavy subs. Fast, beautiful colonization, but in my case it had a low yield.

Surprised to hear your friends prefer cubes to pans. Did they share the reason why?

I could see pans freaking people out.
I’m guessing he needed the space taken up by pans to produce more cubes for a while. Pans are definitely way less reliable without a proven culture.

Hey folks, excellent knowledge on this thread, much appreciated.
So after having some cube experience on agar, this is my first attempt with (what I believe to be) a pan cyan wild print, taken in northern NSW Australia. Collected 3 years ago on printer paper, and is well traveled.
Had some trouble kicking off the print, but finally got something that I think is healthy myc, which i've since transferred to 4 plates. Hope it's not just rando white mold.
How does it look to y'all, or too early to tell?

No reason from the end user cubes are just more marketable. If I were all personal use I'd grow pans 90%. From a market standpoint the end user just doesn't understand the value of a # of pans vs a # of cubes.

My pans are 4 days into fruiting and they still havent matured, the tallest one is like 1 cm. What could be the cause of this?

Back from a break, going to put some nec d spores to agar today! Gonna streak as many plates as I have as the last time I put nec d to agar I got nothing but weak looking growth.

Well yesterday turned into today, funny how it does that. 6 plates streaked with nec d today. Lets see where this goes!
Also Asura, that print arrived, someone had moved my post while I was away so I've only just found it!
Will pour some more plates and streak some of that to play with along side the nec d.

This week been kinda crazy broke the phone and ran out of cloud space months ago had some serious gains this week in the pans. but fuck it on to the next. was kinda spamming the thread anyways
I tweaked the Pan Bisporus waterings and airflow regiment better results from this tiny test tray
The Bisporus culture I have is much different from the cyans, the colonization speed is somewhere between a cube and a pan. And seemed to preform better with less humidity and heat. Still a virgin to this forgive me. I tried .25g dry last night and holy fuck I was not expecting to get an experience as powerful as I’d say an 8th of cubes. But shit that was an intense “micro” dose. Felt more like an insanely colorful heady cube trip. Not crystal clear rocket feeling I get from the cyans. Will have to try again for sure!!
So yeah fuck it moving forward on spawning new trays and gonna go back to agar soon with fresh harvest prints or maybe try a clone from one of these next rounds to see what I can really do with these panaeolus boiis now that I’m comfortable enough with conditions. Still plan on a GH soon but the hot humid summer putting that need off for a sec

They look kind of dry to me. Ime they can handle a lot more water and much lower temperatures than cyans.

Hey folks,
Wondering whether I have healthy pan cyan myc on these plates, or just fluffy nonsense? I posted a few days ago with an early plate, and here are some updates. Any input from you pan-cyantists out there would be greatly appreciated!
Lift off?:

First Transfer T1:

T1 day 2

T1 day 5

Also, how about this other pan cyan initial spore swab plate?
