What? You saying 1 year old pan prints are not viable anymore? I don't think so... I've seen 7 years old prints germinating.

I'm not saying that, but I am worried that Pan spores dont last as long. This is very good news then, if it's consistent.

I guess it also depends on storage conditions but less than 1 year doesn't seem right. Otherwise they may have not survived in nature for so long.

It kinda makes sense but remember Oyster spores generally won't last longer than about a month. And they're making it just fine.

Spores and seeds will work as long as they're still viable. Hell spore vendors claim syringes expire after 3 months right? Not the case. Maybe some species.

Hi, everyone! How is this looking?

What are signs to look for that it's ready to case? Or is it a set number of days in the tray?

Moopers you either wait for 90-100% colonized or go for glory and wait a day or two after 100% so you don't get mad overlay. Yours looks like its' at 300% colonized yo.

About to start my first pan cyan grow. Have done a handful of cubes and wood lovers and gourmets so just looking for the next challenge. I've read a lot of teks and sifted through many posts, many of which go back a long time so I'm just looking to get an update on the latest consensus.... if there is any.
Is there a consensus on going agar/LC->grains->bulk vs LC->bulk+grain mix?
And is there a consensus on pasteurizing your bulk mix vs sterilizing it in the PC?
As far as I can tell from my searching, it doesn't seem there is a consensus but I just wanted to double check. Thank you!

Yeah but an oyster culture produces fruits a couple of years. And they produce a shit tone of spores.

I can’t really see the pics well to say. I would take some transfers and let them grow and see what you got. Also I would suggest this method from Asuras write up https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26325679 and then use that and pics from JCMs write up for selection. Also this thread has lots of great examples. That’s what I did. What’s a few more plates? They all end up in the trash.

I mix grain spawn with pasteurized manure in open air only. No need to be sterile during that process if you have clean and 100% colonized spawn.

Your problem is elsewhere buddy. Proper pasteurization + clean spawn will not give you contams like that. What is your substrate mix?

I'm mostly done building JCM's FC. One outstanding issue is the lid. The tub I bought had a clear lid, but the tub wasn't tall enough. So I switched to an extra tub I had that's the right height but has an opaque white lid.
If I use the white lid, will the light that comes through the many lid holes be enough? Is bright light important for pans?

I think it is. You can look for lights used in aquariums and put it inside the tub, taped or tied to the lid.
