I would have to agree with Mr. Fox about syringes purchased from venders. I prefer prints personally, but you can't always get them from venders. It is always best to start with agar IMO, but not mandatory.

I have never attempted growing pans off of BRF cakes only, but doubt they will do that well. Adding manure, straw or both to a BRF cake will produce fruits nicely. I have never attempted a spore syringe to do this and always use a known clean culture from agar to make LI, and they perform well.

Here are some pics of pan cakes fruiting via double end casing and dunk and roll, treated like normal cakes grown invitro style:

Not the greatest yeild verses standard technique, but it will work.

Lucky you, unfortunatley all i have were syringes from a vendor lol, but i guess i'll still get a clean culture, just not bothered right now to start doing agar lol

Has anyone successfully grown BRF cakes with pans specifically using a MS syringe?  I bought this syringe and every cake I've made grows nice white mycelium and smells like hell when I birth it.

I've started some cultures on agar, and we'll see how that works out.  I'm just wondering if anyone ever got anything out of a MS syringe.

My first couple pan-cake grows were from MS syringe.

But they were modified with manure.

manure grows mold easily bernard. it'll pay for you to clean up a culture. do you have a PC?

Nice plate, Fox! How does that culture perform? It always pays to get a good culture instead of MS grows that's for sure, especially with pans IME.

Also dropped the Vietnam culture on oats this morning.

It's amazing how much faster pan mycelium is compared to cubes. It does make isolating so much faster. I have never grown the Vietnam substrain before, I would be curious to see um fruit. Nice stuff.

Thanks! That's the Vietnam culture.
But I always strive for uniform growth before taking it to grains. Clean growth is cool and all but uniform is where it's at..

Yes.  I have a PC.  I attempted some pan grows from MS syringe on modified (contains some manure) BRF cakes.  They came out sour.

I shot some MS on agar and then moved that to cakes, but that didn't work out either.  I'm thinking that because I went syringe to agar to cake, I didn't "clean it up" enough.  I should've went syringe to agar to agar to agar to cake.  That's what I have going now.

I just birthed some cakes today that I had started with MS syringe, and, of course, they are sour smelling.

I WILL grow pan cambo.  It's gonna happen....

i notice a number of cubensis growers advocating the use of 6500k lighting to enhance primordia formation. has anybody noticed any positive effects from using 6500k lighting in panaeolus grows?

Fungi is fungi. They all benefit from light for the most part..but light shouldn't be that big of a factor, the environmental parameters on the other hand are. (Humidity,  fresh air exchange, casing depth etc)

Well according to my research the Viets are the only pan variety tht has rhizo growth like tht (well on agar atleast) I haven't heard of any one growing it since Blue helix which was at least 10years ago. The print I recieved was a wild print from the works dated back to 2012. Says it came from Mekong, Vietnam

Yes sir, I transferred from 5 o clock...actually after your advice, I went and made transfers from basically every plate I had, and will now continue on agar until I have proven clean myc demonstrated by uniform growth!

Thanks Mr. Fox!

Thanks, it's a 2012 KTM 450 XC-W.
I want a husqavarna, they're truly top of the line and the price clearly resembles tht lol
They're sooo much lighter and agile than the KTM,

You should look into getting one soon ppl usually try to sell their old sumo's around this time and distributors prices usually drop around this time as well.

I got it for 5k a couple month ago from a friend tht I ride with. He was upgrading to a aprilla dorsoduro 750 so gave it to me for the low low. Had low hrs on it,  and never been laid down,  the plastics were perfect and still are. But from my understanding they were going for 8-9k brand new and probably still are..not sure tho.
I need a set of knobbies though I really want to take her on the trails when it gets cold.
