I also have some bisporus on plates. All of my myc is tan, which I understand is normal for the species.
Here are the germ plates on the same day, just for for comparison:

Is that really how bisporus myc is supposed to look? Looks weird to me. Like a ballsack

I think it's the medium. Those are potato dextrose gellan gum plates, not agar, and almost everything has been cracking on them and looking weird, even cubes. When I transfer back to an agar plate, the myc looks normal again. I bought them on a whim, and I can't recommend them.

Here is one at germination looking more normal.

By "bottle tek" I mean a 32oz ziplock container with some holes drilled in and paper tape over holes kinda like a mono tub. I didn't follow a real tek for these٫ just started pans so i'm more or less just fucking around and testing 1 mac merdin pan cake in each one. i have 5 bottles going. but they just practice for now. i still have to fan them out alot cause they dry quick if holes open so the plan is get better at trays and make a few new FCs soon👌

Is this a P. Bisporus? The cap is about quarter sized. I'd like to get a print off of it, but it doesn't seem to be dropping any spores, yet.

Yes that is a Bispy. And it's already dropping I guarantee you that.

Sweet. I put it on some foil. Maybe I'll get something out of it.

That's my first non-cubensis, active mushroom. I've been growing cubes on and off for 20+ years. Decided it was time to try something new.  :awethumb:

Ah hell, real life got on top of me, so I only got round to checking my pan cyan BVI clone tray, and the dam thing was pinning before being cased! So I hastly threw some casing on it and put it in the FC. Fingers crossed it does alright. It's my first clone ever!

Pan cyan BVI clone in the large tray and pan jambo in the two jars.

Just to recap:

The pan jambo were spores -> agar -> LC -> pancake
The pan cyan BVI is clone -> agar -> LC -> straw/manure (50/50)

It's the side cut off a big 5L vinegar jug. I was inspired by AKA's grows! Plus I'd get in trouble if a pyrex dish went missing again!

I'm really looking into getting into pans, and the only print available to me is Bisporus.

I can get a syringe of various cultivars of cyans or cambos, but I definitely prefer a print.

Is the potency and relative ease of cultivation on par with bisporus, or should I go with something slightly more domesticated like pan cyan aussie or pan canbo sandoz, and deal with cleaning up a syringe, if I want to not have a bad time?

Bisporus are very nice and easy to grow, just slower than Cyanescens but they can handle lower temperature and a lot more water.

Things got super weird in my GH while I was away for a few days.  So I had 6 blocks of what was supposed be PE.  5 blocks of CVG and 1 block of some kind of poo with straw in it from either Midwest GK or Outgrow or something like that.  It was old and I just needed to use it.  So 2 blocks fruited some nice PE fruit but the other four, including the poo/straw block did not. I experiemtned with covering the blocks with wax paper to create better pinning conditions because I think I am having humidity issues in my GH.  I went away and came back and the poo/straw block has what I think are pans growing out of it!  WTF.  I have failed to grow pans more times than i care to admit.  I was working with some pan culture (Pan Cyans Texas) and some tampanesis cultures we well so its completely possible I injected the wrong LC into 4 of the blocks.  These do not look like tampanensis to me.  As they aged the margin did not curl up like it does with tamps and the gills also come down below the edge of the cap as well.

Are these Pans?

I have looked at pics of Pan Cy TX in this thread and these seem to be a darker brown and not the pale color I see in other folks' pics.

I decided to crumble and case the block and there were also no stones in it so I pretty sure its not tamps.

I took prints and made tissue clones too.

I apologize if this is a misuse of this thread.  If so I can delete or whatever.

My first run of pan aussie genetics are very red. I'm just gonna go ahead and use "Red down under" on labels and continuations of this culture if anyone has grown RDU or aussies٫ or just knows pans better please chime in and tell me if i'm wrong??

I had to recase and hydrate my trays due to big FC heat/dryness from the past week being very hot with my home windows open. Can start spawn of this culture very easily and have lc ready to go٫ so culture continuation and spawn developing is much easier and faster than cubes. but before I dial in fruiting I don't want to have too many going. but let me stress just how easy the pan-cakes are and growth of panaeolus mycelium is honestly incredible if you have the right materials. I have put this off for a long time. but if I were to have just started learning.  and I started with pans٫ Idk if I were to want to go back just for the speed from spawn to fruit!

They kind of look like pans. But definetly not Texas or any other cyans I've grown so far.

What color are the prints? Pan Texas should drop a black print.

The source of the supposed Pan Cy TX spores was definitely questionable too so I am not surprised that these do not resemble TX or other pan cyans.  I am going to compare to bisporus and other pan species next

Those look like Tamps with a ton of FAE. Can you not tell by their smell? Tamps have a smell like no other fungus.

The prints were very dark purple, almost black.  I will pull them out and snap a pic later.

I have a tray of known tamps next to the mystery tray so I am going to go sniff them and see if they smell the same.  I feel like I would have recognized the unmistakeable smell of tamps though  when I crumbled out the mystery block.  As I recall they smelled more like cubes.
