This is what I just used. I had 2 aluminum baking trays in it and it required a lot of attention. Total flush size was 315g wet, final batch is currently drying.
I have a couple indoor greenhouses in the mail that I will be setting up so that I don't have to monitor nearly as much.

Is it safe to be scraping off overlay like that? I thought it invites room for contaiminations

I would rather take the chance and invite contaminants than leave that heavy overlay and watch it sit there doing nothing for a week or longer before I toss it. Now I will have fruits.
Also I'm not sure how this would invite contamination? The substrate is already colonized

I fruit in an aquarium heater and pump setup. Success in monotubs and SGFCs is patchy and inconsistent. I had zero luck in low tek FC like that.

Rad! It's cool to see scraping work. It's one of things that I've seen spoken about more than put into practice!

It seemed in the thread I was reading that RR didn't want people scraping and messing with the casing layers. Obviously it's working out for you. There's more than one way to bbq chicken haha.
And coversall. I've seen that type of automated setup and I wanted to try it but I saw a lot of complaints how it causes more issues. Something to do with the water getting old I forget. I've seen some people not recommend a SGFC for low humidity areas. I believe in Pastys method the most because the man likes scarface.

You should really make a specialized fruiting chamber if you’re gonna do pans. It’s possible in regular stuff but they’re so finicky and fragile it’s really tough unless you live in certain climates.
Pans kinda need the high fae of sgfc but also the high humidity of a mono.

RR is king in my book he helped a lot of amateurs back in the day. Sure the methods have changed over time, but what he's done for the community just can't be put into words...Like the time he fruited on a dollar bill lol.
AKA I'm still waiting for you or JCM to hold a block party it's the only way I'll see a pan if I don't figure out how to make a SGFC Mono hybrid. You have any input on using a layer of water with air stones to maintain a higher RH? I see you panned out of milk containers I'm inspired.

He’s got the whole write up on his airstone fc.
I’ve never tried it but I’ll prob be making one soon. summer is too hot for cubes so I’m switching to pans.
Before I used a plastic sheet and a reptile fogger but I can’t scale that up without having more foggers. I tried a mono and couldn’t get it to pin. So that leaves building a real fc

Alright if AKA is going for it so will I. The fogger method seems more tedious, and a martha seems like a fogger method 2.0

So I got a new pan Alabama (light colored fruits) strain in from Alan a month ago I finally got around to getting a tray of it up not a super impressive yield but that’s not surprising given it was MS I will grab a clone from the best looking fruits Like I always do.
Then I had another pan Jalisco me tray come up I’ve already grabbed a good cologne for these but I had made a couple MS jars so I went ahead and ran them I got some nice Fattys I grabbed another clone last night

That's interesting. So you were able to cross 2 different species and make a hybrid that produces viable spores. Wouldn't that change the taxonomy?
My overlayed nec d tray only gave me like 3 grams dried, but the fruits were beautiful. I'm excited to try them. kinda wish I tried scraping the overlay off to get a better pinset

Yes both PHV & Nec D are inter-species hybrids. Alan has done write ups on them and it’s posted on mushroom observer although I don’t have the link on me I’m sure one of these guys in here has it

Thank you AKA I found the write up from JCM it looks like a SGFC hybrid. I wonder if the water needs to be changed every few days. Someone else had perlite suspended in water with an airstone maybe it defeated the purpose.
