Caso4 2H2o is the subsequent result of adding water to plaster of paris (caso4 h2o). Plaster of paris is not water soluble while gypsum is. Meaning, you add plaster of paris to water, it will turn solid (absorbs the water it needs to structurally become 2h2o and the rest is excess) and therefore you have gypsum which you then have to break up to use. If you add powdered gypsum to water, it will just get muddy.
You heat gypsum at high temperatures, it loses water and becomes either hemihydrate (plaster) or anhydrate. You can play around with either of those forms and the end result will be the same and reversible. But just buying straight gypsum is far easier and less work to deal with.
Good luck

First time growing Panaelous...kinda nervous but super stoked with this plate. I’ve since transferred this and two others to grain hoping to get some fruits. I was actually considering doing an artful grow by using a terrarium and some plants with one of the jars but we will see where this goes, if anyone has tips please share, I have very little to no knowledge of what I’m doing growing pans. It’s more of an experiment than anything but I don’t want this culture to go to waste because of my lack of knowledge, lol.

Help me out guys, this is a quote from another thread I made
Quote:
So I have been growing this little guy here and I can't tell if it's just a mold or pan cyan mycelium. For what it's worth, I haven't seen it sporulating neither pinning, ever. Well, not too sure about sporulation but the pics im posting below show a greenish tint which is from spraying with water. Another feature of this myc is that after too much water it turns into a transparent gel like mat. weird stuff
So here it goes
The mycelium where it all came from

In the jar right before spawning. 800 ml to 3 lt sub

The tray after finishing colonizing
After casing it and in fruiting conditions

And at the end, I tossed because nothing happened. Here's the dissection

For what it's worth, its smell was not funky at all. Smelled grassy and ethereal. But not like almonds like it's described of pans.

Here you guys go. Example of clean healthy Pan myc on agar. This is a strong performing jambo clone.
And to you Phony, sorry man but none of that looks very good if I'm being honest. Almost looks like mold on the agar and in the jars but the sub looks like a heavily bacterial cubensis cake. I would go back to spores and start again

Ye I was afraid so. The weird thing is it never sporulated but it didn't bruise blue either and after I salted it (for good measure) it turned this weird red color.
And your plates are pretty man. I love looking it pan myc. so smooth

how long you wait for pan cyan culture to wake up before putting to grain? like for cubes 28 hours later ime they are awake and ready to go on grain.

So, this is my first attempt at growing pans. The bag on the left was inoculated with P. bisporus (MSS->agar->LC->agar, then LC->grain) on 4/4. The bag on the right was inoculated with Amazon LC on 4/14. I know that pan mycelium is supposed to look wispy but it's actually difficult to see the mycelium without a magnifying glass. It also appears more gray than I expected, although it doesn't seem to smell bad. Given that over 3 weeks have passed since inoculation I thought I'd solicit advice before spawning to hpoo/straw.

Not a pin but it could be knotting.

Doesn't look too bad from what I can see with the small picture. Send it brotha

I went back to agar, and I think I have much better results. I put arrows pointing on the colonies I plan to transfer.
Please let me know what you think. And thanks, as always, for helping a new pan cultivator!

This is the first attempt to grow Panaeolus cyanescens, everything is going well so far. It's almost time to lay them out to the trays and after given them some time to recover I'll finally do the casing layer.
I was trying to find peat moss to do a 50/50 (peat/verm) but it's been really hard to find it, it's kind of banned here because it's bad for the environment.
Therefore, the closest thing I found is a compost. Apparently is made from peat moss & Organic matter mix but it doesn't about the ratio of this mix.
Following are the pictures of this compost I bought.

Can someone please let me know if this compost is safe to use? If it's bad, is there a alternative for peat moss?
I really don't want to mess things up.
Peace

I probably wouldn't use that as a casing because of the 'organic matter mix' is probably very nutritious and would cause overlay.
In other news, this culture is ripping through this WBS. 100% in 5 days???
