Hi all together, I am fairly new to this topic and seek for wisdom from the more experienced growers. To make it short.
Has someone a good substrate recipe for a substrate out of horse poo pellets and coco coir? Has someone maybe even grew something with this substrate?
I am kind of lost at the moment and my first attempts failed, so I am looking for help of the experienced growers.
All the best shroomrookie

I haven't fruited any pans yet. But, from what I've read it seems like most are using a bulk substrate recipe of 50% wheat straw 50% horse poo or 60/40. I'll be sending my jars to a 50/50 sub in a few days here.
Gonna just go pick up a bag of turds from an old pile at a ranch and crumble/lay it out in the sun for the day to dry

Sub and casing?

Looks like you're going to have some damn nice clusters to clone from. It won't be long until you're pushing JOC/JCM/Asura level canopies!

The sub is sterilized straw/horsepoo.
Casing is jiffy mix with a good pinch each of lime and crushed oyster shell.

some fruits I tried to clone... for size or for clusters. Fingers crossed. I'm trying to follow advice posted in here recently by Jake and JCM... thanks for the knowledge and your generosity with it folks.

Jumbo Jambo

Cluster of Jambos

A nice sized Wild Coast

I also had a nice cluster of Wild Coast but it fell apart before I could photograph it. It is the one in the lower right here:

This is the improvised fruiting chamber I was using since the Jambos were taking up on the landscape in my fruiting chamber::

Those jambo caps are awesome!!
I keep meaning to photograph my clone to get some input on it.
I streaked some jambo and some pan cyan hawaii today. Hopefully that'll give me something else to play with.

Sure does!
Do you think the agar recipe makes a lot of difference in terms of how the myc grows? I've been using premade agar with mainly glucose and never see the whispy type of growth wanted for pans.
Have some glass petris laying around so maybe after two yrs it's time to learn hiw to make my own agar

I'm thinking about adding a 30mm PC fan to my jcm FC for increased FAE. Should it be forced intake or forced exhaust?

I had one on my tub but didn't see much difference in grows with or without the fan. I would go with exhaust so as not to suck too much colder air in. But that's, just, like, my opinon man.

Thanks again for this visual tutorial Jake. I have a minor clarification question for you. Obviously when we select for cloning material we are looking for certain desirable characteristics. These characteristics most likely emerge as fruit bodies reach the later stages of maturity.
I followed your procedure pretty closely - in front of my flowhood and every thread I placed on the fresh agar plates went bacterial on me. I have two ideas how this might have happened.
One, my technique sucked and I didn't grab a fine enough thread from the inside of the stipe. Two, maybe I waited too long and was selecting clone material that was too old? When I split open the stipe it was pretty wet in there and I could imagine moisture flowing around and possibly transferring bacteria with it. I'm just spit balling here trying to explain why all 8 plates failed with the same issue - bacteria apparently on the tissue samples that I laid down. Not just in one part but pretty much the whole lenght of every thread I dropped.
These are the fruits. They are not OLD but definitely mature. Maybe I should pick something closer to a phase while the fruit body is still expanding and growing in size?

-------------------- What are they saying? Listen carefully, it might be something you need to hear...

Could be also your nute profile could be too rich drop down to 1% nute fir clone tissue see how that works Also make sure you flame sterilize your scalpel after every cut any time you cut through the outside of the stipe can you come in contact with bacteria
