Hi, I've been colonizing some grain jars with panaelous jamaicans for quite a while now, it's been about a month since shaking them, do these look done?

I noticed they were quite wet on the sides with moisture, I prepared the grain the same as for cubensis which never got wet on the sides! But I'm thinking these are ready now even though they are slowly colonizing the last few grains day by day, but I don't want to go past their peak.

those are horribly bacterial. throw them in the garbage. pans don't tolerate wet or bacterial grain as well as cubes do. start from a clean culture on agar first.

No I don't think they're bacterial, it's just a few uncolonized grains on the side. What threw me was the length of time to colonize, and the grains definitely weren't over saturated with water. It's just a tad wet on the sides. Thanks anyway, maybe I'm wrong and all 10 jars are exactly ruined the same way with some moisture on the sides with no sign of bacteria, but I doubt it.

besides just looking like they are bacterial, slowly colonizing spawn, uncolonized grains, and excess moisture are all signs of bacteria

How are you going to come in here asking for advice and then argue and say that we are wrong when given said advice?

Man there's clearly even bubbles and shit in the jar. It's toast. Start over. No big deal.

I've done this twice this year alone with pans.

all depends onnthe culture and the composition of the growing medium and the environmental conditions its in. there is no set time frame for anything but il say if a qt jar of grain aint done in 10-12 days tops its most likely a trash culture and or something is wrong. or both. id say thats a good frame of reference to go by for grain colonization
my qt jars are usually 100% ready to go around the 8 day from wedge drop mark. "usually" shit can happen but it seems rare whenur starting with a clean strong fast moving culture

It’s hard to see but the grain looks really wet but @ 9 days that’s pretty slow I’d be concerned

My Pan Cyans are way slower than that but that causes no problems. It depends on your variety. I wouldn't rely on speed alone if I were you.

variety dont really have nuttn to do with it tho. a good healthy strong culture will almost always be close to that within 10 day time frame when using an agar wedge as inoculant. it makes no difference in colonization times based on the geographical location of origin. like i said tho there is no dead set time table for anything but if you apply basic common knowledge and the law of averages for the species you can usually safely bet ur bottom dollar that if u have a healthy strong pan culture it will almost always fall within those parameters
