Why the need for a pure strain??
Most people here like to keep the genetic range as broad as possible when starting out.
Pans are a tomentose species, rhizo myc isn't what you are looking for.
I would put everything you know about cubes aside for growing pans. It's all very different.
Have you read the teks in this thread?

click the link in my sig there is plenty of pics if what u wanna look for as far as myc goes. find the correct growth transfer to a new plate and start over fresh with the proper myc.

Strain isolation is not your problem ms is fine to dial in your FC. Most ppl’s issue is their bulk is too dense, mist overlay directly and crank temp to induce pinning

monocultures dont mean fuck all
also dont make LC until u have exactly what u wanna have and know its clean. and wtf are you talkn about under the plastic????
also make sure u have plenty of fae. the key is to have all the fae u can and yet still have the rh,eavap and temps needed to keep em happy

I wouldn’t say monocultures don’t mean fuck all but you definitely cannot access there ability without optimized fruiting conditions first

when i say that im meanin more so when ur starting from a ms inoculation i just see absolutely no point in spending a year making transfers before u even fruit anything. it just seems like ppl think just cuz its a pretty round plate that it means its gnna be good.

Hey, I was wondering if the problems with fruiting are due to the fact that people are casing too early.
Here goes my reasoning: A piece of straw is some orders of magnitude bigger than a "piece" of coir so to say. It might be the case that we are seing the straw turn white but actually there is a lot of food there for the myc still. Therefore by applying "coir" logic to straw+manure we are interrupting the vegetative cycle of the pans and casing too early thus causing poor fruiting.
Those very nice and succesful grows here usually go from substrate bags + to trays. If you think about it you can see way more surface on a spawn bag and therefore you have better control over "full colonisation"

I don’t even use straw and that happens if I case right at 100. Always gotta give it a couple more days or it eats the casing.

I'm the only person in this entire thread, maybe on the entire site who mixes Sawdust with the poo. Never used straw either. But I've always waited at least 2 days after full colonization before casing them. Not only because it's recommended - but also because it intuitively just FEELS right. Like not rushing things and giving them some time to rest before the next stage.

I’d say technically yes but not nearly as divided as pans.
Ime when pans go from colonization to fruiting it’s like a switch is flipped. That’s how I know I cased it at the right time because it really won’t grow into the casing visibly at all. Even a day too soon and it’ll run the whole thing overnight.

If I case cubes with straight coir right as it’s pinning, will it stop fruiting and start to eat again?

I’ve only tried it twice but I did it when it had been knotting for a while but not pinning yet and it switched back to colonization mode.
I know faht late cases all the time though so I think if you wait long enough it’ll keep pinning.

what's the secret to get pans to be so big and thick? it seems like mine are always little sticks compared to the photos i see on here from some of you.
blue helix grow for reference. look how big they are:
