How come they gotta be late cased? Anyone tried casing at spawn?
Why they gotta colonize with such limited fae? Anyone tried fruiting at spawn?

But none of that stuff will work well for you, because I've done them all already
so you don't have to.

That looks great. I'm planning to try some outdoor patches this year if I can some decent growth.

I inoculated an agar dish with Nec-D spores and made a few transfers to see what kind of growth I have

Pan myc is still quite new to me. Does anything here look worth isolating?

You also won't get pins any sooner by fruiting at spawn. I can guarantee that 100%.
The only thing this will accomplish is many extra days of maintaining fruiting conditions
that you didn't need.

I have perlite and a humidifier and I have read extensively about them. I did find out that the substrate is not just BRF it's a mixture of things. Those pictures were of the iffy jars, I have others that look way better. I'm feeling confident. So just to be clear as a complete newb I am hesitant to break these up and layer with casing but I did buy some bulk manure casing in case I get my nerve up to abandon my plan. What if I just rolled the cakes in the manure casing and after birthing and soaking? Is that an option? Or do I just need to suck it up layer the casing with broken cakes into trays? They will have to have their own for sure because I have 4 different kinds of difficult pans lol. Leave it to me to choose the hardest possible thing.

I decided to set up a small FC using jcm's specs, with some small tweaks.  For the most part, it worked out great!  I'd like to get the caps a little fatter for a proper canopy, but the whole ordeal was pretty stress-free.  I'm screening second generation clones for a wild mexican pan I've been working with.  I think this one goes in the keeper column for now.

Thanks for the info, dream team! So late casing is for the sake of avoiding overlay and colonization period is out of fruiting conditions because they are hard to maintain? But you could fruit at spawn if your shit is dialed?

This is just my observation and I don't present this as fact, but after MANY grows now,
pan cyan seems to have a very distinct vegetative state and fruiting state and the conditions required
for each are different.

It's not that fruiting conditions are hard to maintain, but what's the point of fruiting at spawn?
What would you be accomplishing with this? And what's easier...a tray covered in foil in a closet
for 5 days or maintaining a FC for 5 days (refilling water, checking conditions, etc)?

As far as I can see, cubes are really the outlier. They grow under a wide array of conditions.
The things we do for pan cyan translate well to many different species.

Awesome tub! Got any pics of your FC? What were the tweaks you made?

Thanks.  The main modification is that I'm using a scaled down tub size(50L), with one air pump(I think it's the same one jcm is using).  The pump runs two 12 inch air stones along the side, and two 6 inch stones in the middle.  The lid has holes in a two inch grid pattern and is cracked open a little on the sides.  I'm still playing around with the settings on the outside fan which blows air towards the tub for a couple of minutes once or twice an hour.  Plus the aquarium heater.  Overall it's pretty similar.

Oh nice, sounds like the changes I made! I ran a smaller tub with a single pump too. It's a really great FC, the definition of low maintenance!
