Asura said: Your tray needs to be fully colonized before you case. After casing you can put it right into fruiting. Some people wait a day. I've noticed that just makes pins take 1 day longer.
But it will start to colonize the casing layer inside the FC?

It should tunnel through it. Not consume it. If there is a wispy layer on top that's probably ok. If the growth is thick you are probably getting overlay.
My casing layers are always still intact after a grow.

Edit: Look at the casing surface here. This is what I like.

If the pan-cakes I just noc'd get to casing I'm going to half really thin and hald less thin, see how it pans (haha...) out.
Can't seem to upload pics atm which is a drag.

Do you ever get trays that don't fruit but also don't get mold? I have some trays inside of my FC (plastic tote with holes similar to pasty's ez dialed mono) which are already 17 days into fruiting lol.
They smell like fresh mushrooms but apart from that they don't do much. It feels bad to toss them tho...
Substrate is hmanure + straw, casing is peat/verm buffered. Strain is Hawaii. Temperature at sub level is around 27 degrees.
I know this is already a failure but I would like to understand what it is happening appart from my poor FC setup.

if u aint got fruits 17 days in ur not gnna id toss n start over. while pastys mono is great and is my favorite mono design it still in my opinion isnt optimal for pans unless ur able to give it the attention needed on a regular basis. that said it still should habe givin u some fruits so that tells me ur problem is in your culture/sub/casing and or your overall environmental conditions. so in order to pinpoint whats goin on pics are very helpful along with the proper info such as methods used. did u use agar, what is ur sub made of, whaf is ir casing made of,what are your environmental conditions temp/rh ect. ect. ect. like i said pics speak volumes
lol im retarded i just saw u included some of that info🤦🏻♂️ thats what i get for tryin to be fast and sneaky while at work😂😂

i usually get pins in the 5-7 day area sometimes even b4 but its usually a safe bet that if u dont see nothin by about day 12 you got a loser and its best to just toss it and start over. are u absolutely sure your sub was 100% colonized when it was cased? sometimes ppl will think that its 100% just cuz the top is covered. casing before complete colonization will often cause problems.

Harvesting time (for Jambos) is when the outside of the caps sort of straighten out and maybe turn up a little? First crop here so I'm going off other people's pics...
And for printing, I've read that decent humidity should be maintained throughout, is this right? Is a soaked paper towel good enough, under whatever I use to cover the printing caps?
I'm so happy to finally have a grow go somewhere. Think I failed about five different ways getting to this point. The way I'm hedging my bets says it all: currently have these trays from LC into a sterile sub bag, a few more of the same with varying sub recipes, a colonizing bag with rye spawn in pasteurized sub, and some colonizing pan-cakes haha. Plus a bunch of plates in varying stages of growth, and several LCs. Wasn't going to leave any stone unturned!
Thanks a bunch to jcm, A.k.a, Asura, Blue Helix, JOC, angam, and anyone else nice enough to post your methods and help out in this thread! Esp appreciate jcm's FC design . I fucked around a lot trying to go straight to a tent before realizing I was just adding more problems to solve. The tub is perfect for my cold-ass room that sometimes dips into the 50s overnight.

I'm surely starting over, as of now I am waiting for my new grain to be fully colonised. I will assume that my mistake was to case it too early. It seemed fully colonised to me but maybe it was just the top and some areas were missing as you said.
I know the FC is not optimal but you know..I'm working from home because of covid and I wanted to learn how to fruit pans in just a plastic tote. For some reason I think it is a good way to learn what the fungi actually likes.

i harvest pending on if im printing them or not. if im printing i wanna harvest before they go totally flat and pale and start just dumpin spores. i grab em right when they start to flatten just a tad and start to very lightly see spore deposits on the fruits underneath. i get the best prints this way. as for wet paper towels n shit that just screams mold magnet lol i usually just place on foil and cover like so.

il leave like this for 48 hrs.
this is all i do and my prints come out great. they are clean and dark and i have never had any complaints.👍
thats awsum man im glad ur havin good results with tbe fc and the print i sent ya. you should post some pics

I did have some tubs that just kinda knotted up a ton and sat around. Eventually they put up a handful of super sickly looking mushrooms and then molded. But I think it took like two weeks to see pins.

cyan id back off on the misting ur caps are bruising and may not live or grow to full size. or they wont look as good if they do make it. i have this happen when i have pins/knots below the casing that i dont see and give a watering. then they just kinda sit there in all that water like that. i dont use bags gor fruiting in due to the fae issue but i would def back off on the watering and start giving more air and u should see many more pins and they wont be bruised or abort on ya. my fruits love bein wet as long as that moisture only comes from the saturation of the air around them.

Thanks JCM, I will do. My chamber is designed for trays. This bag has been a challenge in gh. Basically just monitoring fae and temp. I been misting, last 24 hours with a syringe. I’m learning, that’s the most important thing right now.
