I’m about to make some casing. Following Asuras recipe, he does not add gypsum. The RR video he does. Is this to help prevent overlay? Does that part not apply to pans?

I totally agree with you. This is my first and hopefully only 50lb bag of WBS. When I was first starting with agar our kids built little birdhouses so I decided to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and use WBS for my grain. This bag is almost gone so I need to source some rye locally.

Those wbs jars look good to me.
I’ve only ever used wbs but I keep hearing how cheap feed grain is and I hate the smell of wbs in the pc so I’m gonna try something else soon.
I’ve heard wheat smells good.

Wheat and rye both smell awesome coming outta the pc... recently, I made some GSW agar with a bit of honey in it for nutes and it came out smelling like honey nut cheerios... so the next round of grain I did I put a drop of honeybon each grain jar... whole house smelled like cheerios!

An accidental mycology homie of mine (we play dnd together and recently found out we both cult and are on this site ) gave me a bag of oats to try. They're basically giving it away at the store so it's gotta be worth a shot

Sounds like a top notch human being.I bet he's as handsome as he is generous.
My oats always end up a little wet. Probably more my amateur prep than the oats. But for my first pans I have mixed oats with half wbs, someone suggested, somewhere in this thread. That really helped dry them out.
Colonizing faster and looking healthier than anything else I've ever culted. I need to get moving on finishing my tent.

I'm experimenting with culture storage. This was an agar wedge stored in distilled water in a test tube for over a year at room temperature (Panaeolus cambodginiensis var. Sandose). I dropped it onto an LME agar plate a couple weeks ago. Some of the myc is extremely thin and wispy.
What do you folks think, should that thin, translucent sector be my target for transfers?

See upper left corner of the picture below:

 'Weza'
 'wild coast"
Side by side shots for comparisons Judging by differences in shape of cap and gill spacing I'm almost sure these are different species but will leave it up to the experts to decide...

Those are some nice looking fruits zif. I think you're right about the gill spacing but the edges seem different too as the "wild coast" are curving inwards and the "weza" isn't.
I put some pans to LC using Josex's poke method the other day and I'm wondering if it's better A, B or if I should just toss these. Can't seem to find good pan LC pictures but I'm also half a retard on good days, so

Hey, I have an old-ish agar dish that i forgot about after making some unsuccessful transfers at first. It was inoculated with Pan 'Nec-D hybrid' spores.
Does the growth look ok/worth transferring to a new dish?

How many days old is the LC? I let mine go 5-7 days. It looks white.
Myself I’m having a helluva day with this casing. First my probe is a piece of shit. Brand new too. I had to run all over to get that figured out. Come back, check it, obviously it is way over because of bad probe. Toss that and make another batch. Check it. Good first try. Start the process via the rr video. I shut stove off at 138f and it climbed to 171f. So I’m getting some amazing educational experience in today. As I make this casing now for the third fucking time.

Damn I think this is the first time I've ever had to look on the 2nd page for this thread 🤣

Jar progression from noc to tonight. Growth was very speedy and healthy from 10th to 19th. Jar was shaken on the 19th and after recovering for 3 days it looks less colonized than before 😤😡
Feeling defeated in the pan growing area right now.

Lol good thing grain is cheap. I've thrown 5 pan jars since mid dec and am back to spores again.
I've got Texas, Alabama and wild coast going. I have to get something useable from one of them
Worst thing is I know my very first plate looked liked jcm's do, but I put that one on shitty prepped grains. Haven't gotten that kind of growth since
At least I've plenty of L and cubes to keep me sane in the meantime

Hi! I was just want to ask you guys for your honest opinion about my trays.
They colonised nicely, and were cased 6 days ago. So far no pins, it smells clean and I think (if I'm not delusional) that I see the poking myc starting to thicken.
My FC is a plastic tote with holes and I am fanning regularly. I am very aware that my methodology is suboptimal

do you aim for ph of 8 for your substrate?
