Update on my Pans.
First time. So I'm not sure when to pull-em.
I was learning about drying last night, and how you can just use a box with a hole cut-out the top, and throw the shrooms on a sheet of aluminum inside the box and have a fan blowing them dry for about 3 or 4 days. Is that an OK method what is safe?
Should I pull that one biggie today? Or wait for the ones surrounding it (connected to it?) first?
Thanks all! -Steve

Thanks man! I'm goin to the hardware store today anyway, will get one. I had a suspicion that the digital ones were (for the most part) not humidity proof And I agree with you two, the DO indeed look like cubes. Which means I was sold generic (whatever he had) kinda spores. But I was assured they were Pans. Clearly not But I do love my cubies anyway, and on brf cakes, I can't believe they would grow that big. chrz all!

Yup. I don't mind they're cubes cuz I love 'em anyway. But the dude online selling the spores is a liar for selling these as PCs. If they turn out nicely, i'll take some prints, but will never order from him again. PM me if you want his company site name to prevent you spending a premium for what you're not getting.) His only redeeming quality is that the syringe was exploding with spores. The mycelium filled-out so fast I had to rush to accommodate the eco-changes in the chamber. phew

No one needs to know who is selling bunk spores unless it is one of the trusted/sponsor vendors on the vendor list

Understood. They know who they are and should just sell legit, correctly identifiable strains and label them as such. This place just charged a lot more for the alleged PC spores. To their credit, however, the syringe was loaded with spores and not one large cake has spoiled. I'm afraid I don't know who the credible companies are and who are not.
I'm not pissed off at the guy. Ive tried to grow before and they always failed. This is my first success. Cubies are awesome anyway ;-)

So weird. I cut the questionable bit out, salted the hole and cased that day. Surface looks fine, imho...no overlay or green...lots of white fuzz. But not one pin. Not even a side pin.
I should give up on her at this point, no? Over 14 days since casing...

Hmmm was I expecting too much when I thought my pan cambo would look different to my pan cyan?? So far they look exactly the same!
lmao so maybe I was

stonesun said: Macroscopically the mature fruits of both species look identical. The only distiguishing macroscopic difference is in the pinning stage. Panaeolus cambodginiensis pins are dark brownish/olive green color, while Panaeolus cyanescens pins are much lighter, yellowish/pale brown.
All other differences are microscopic.

there really isnt a whole lot of difference really. i mean at times they can exhibit traits where u can tell them apart but more often than not the only real way to kno the difference is thru scope work
or i guess u could get way crazy and go with pcr

Idk I feel like there have been some mislabeled genetics circulating, I can usually spot a cambo bisp cyan and trop without a scope.
Trop Lighter and more delicate usually with lighter spore drop
Cyan Thicker than trop with a more solid color and larger deeper cap &gills

Bisp These are the easiest to spot much larger caps when fully mature flatten out to quarter or half dollar size usually less tall darker color when young then they can take on a creamy color when mature

Cambo can be the trickiest although the Komodo is pretty easy to spot
The sandoze has a common dwarfing pheno that Does not always appear but the thickness is still noticeable even in non-dwarfed cultures
And then sometimes it can be harder to spot but there are still color and texture differences imo

I would not be surprised at all if you could tell them apart with the amount of time you spend with them.
I haven’t run them enough to know for sure but so far it seems like myc is a decent way to ID too. I could pick out plates of Jambo vs wild coast vs Aussie all day.

I have a print from stone sun of cambo sandose from 2009 and one from 2011 I’m trying to revive. Trying out activated carbon/LME/yeast/peptone agar low nute and low agar. Be cool to go back in time and get the good genetics. Also have some old cambo from Germany from stone sun and pan vietnam
