I think they're real sclerotia, just usually too tiny to really bother harvesting, although I have seen photos of bigger-sized ones. If I'm able to isolate a good pearl producer I may try consuming the myceliated grain with capsules or tea. Maybe I'll cook up some myceliated brown rice for dinner sometime.
Here is cinctulus on brown rice and pearled barley started on 3/31/22, it looks hopeful. I also have a bag on oat/barley/millet/RGS that is a few weeks behind.

Harvested the first tub of Pan cyan 'Alabama' last night. For the first pan harvest of the year, not too bad, a good starting point.

Second tub will go tonight.

I'll let them try for a 2nd flush just to see what they look like then outside they go.

The second tub was a little underwhelming but still a good starting point. I already harvested a little before I took the photo so the front is a bit sparse.

The 2nd flush on the 1st tub is coming in, once picked, outside it goes. Same for the 2nd tub when it's time. I have limited space and Bisporus and Cinct are next in the que. I've been testing a different sub recipe and ended up having to make a few dubs with 12qt tubs instead of 6qt and that created a bottleneck.

Thank you Baba Yaga, it is definitely a work in progress.
I went from MS agar>1/4 pint oat/barley>myco pint RGS>sterile bulk, then crumble to tray, case (sterile) after consolidation then FC.
Bulk recipe is: 3C chopped straw 1C Kelloggs "Ammend" 1/4C Wpoo 1tsp gypsum 1/2tsp chicken feed 1 2/3C water
Casing is peat, verm, AG lime, pickling lime (Asura's recipe)
I put the straw in 2 micron filter bag and soak it for about 20min. I measure out the rest of the ingredients and mix them in, PC 2hr @ 15psi.
My FC normally is a 6qt but in this case 12qt. I use a aquarium pump bubbling into a 1/2 gallon jar partially filled with water and a touch of H2O2. From there into a qt jar with some salt then into the FC. The dubs have holes near the sub level plus more in the upper part of the dub. I mostly use Polyfil in the holes.
I need to get rid of the fuzzy legs and feet on the stipes, maybe loose Polyfil or larger holes? More size would be nice too, I think I may have been a day or two late with syringe watering the casing. Hopefully I'll get it dialed in with the next round. I plan to cut the bulk recipe in 1/2 and go straight from agar to a 1/2 pint of RGS as spawn moving forward.
My current set up

Ammend ingredients

Here is 1st tub, 2nd flush, a few nice sized mush to take prints from. These are MS from what are desribed as wild prints. I had the wrong time frame in mind for the bisporus so I'll try for a 3rd flush with these before they head outside. The 2nd tub 2nd flush will go tonight or tomorrow.

Here is a shoebox of cinctulus right before casing.

Pan cyan 'Alabama' tub 1, 3rd flush, harvested about a day late. Some nice sized caps for printing though.

I'm thinking of doing small batches of honey from each of the grows. Some Alabama honey, bisporus, cincts and hopefully more.
Now I just need some time for testing.

Om Namo Shivaya said: Also, realizing as I read through this thread that people normally grow pans on manure/straw blends. How do pans do with compost? The bag I made is a ~5 pound bag from homemade compost from my yard. Should i expect a lower yield, as it's a bit more broken down than aged manure?
Should i perhaps pasteurize some straw and spawn this compost bag to straw? also, I sterilized this compost, not pasteurize, in case that information helps.
I'm testing a sub recipe that is 3C straw, 1C store bought compost, 1/4C Wpoo and 1 tsp powdered chicken feed. I sterilize sub and casing.
Here is a MS of pan cyan Ho'okipa beach, HI starting to push.

KingCloyster said: I have 3 shoebox sized subs that I put in a SGFC. I’ve kept temps between 74-80 degrees and humidity in the high 90s, they were starting to show lots of pins and my casing was looking dry so I continued a VERY light misting but now it looks like my pins stopped growing the last few days. What am I doing wrong?
I don't think pan pins like being directly misted, some people syringe water to avoid this. The sub itself may need water too?
Good luck!

Not sure of a TEK but for two shoeboxes, I use an 150 gallon air pump that has a bubble stone attached to it. The bubble stone is in the bottom of a 1/2 gallon Mason jar that is 1/2 full of water with about 10% of that being hydrogen peroxide. From there it flows into a small mouth quart jar with 1/4" salt in the bottom. From that jar it splits into two tubes, one for each shoebox. At the shoebox, the tube splits again for two entry points into the shoebox. The hoses enter into the upper dub about mid wall, spaced evenly. Make sure the lids you are using for your Mason jars have silicon seals. When you drill the holes in the lids and tubs, drill them slightly small for tight seals.

This is what my dubs look like, the upper left and right hole would have the Polyfil replaced with hoses.

The smaller jar removes some of the humidity and the salt in the bottom is to prevent mold in the jar or at least slow it.
