Guys, a (noob) question. We (me and my girlfriend) are busy rearranging our living space to be as prepared as we can before our new growing adventure takes off. That's all great but as the actual main reason for our getting into this is an experience with pan cyan hawaii, that is also the species we would eventually like to cultivate. Sure we like the cubes too but these are just somethimg else! So as pan growers, what would you advise us to start out with? Start with cubes and work towards more difficult species later, or should we boldly go for pans straight away? Maybe try both simultanuously? For who's interested some pics of our nearing completion setup are in my journal. Hope to get some advice here as we are just about ready to get started.
In short: what would be the better option if the end goal is growing pan cyan hawaii

Thanks. That was my guess too but you're the ones who really know. Thinking of starting with hpoo and straw as bulk substrate though as that is what i should learn to work with anyway, if im not wrong

Thanks Jake!, yes I live in a rural area where there's abundant straw and horse manure as I know folks with their own stables. That substrate would cost me nothing and since that's what both species can grow on I'm now more confident to go with hpoo 30, straw 70 and some verm for moisture.

Yup!
Learning how to grow pans is like doing an archaeological dig through this site. I would read through all of mary fairchild's grows and anything you can find on Blue Helix.

Thank you guys! Yes I will do that for sure. I've already read a lot of her stuff This is so challenging!

Hi guys, today we got two copelandia Cyanescens growkits. They're supposed to be brand new on the market. We couldn't resist. So we got these and a cube mckennai kit to get kickstarted with our activities. The pan strain is dubbed Ogre Boy, probably by the company that markets these. I'll be posting pics here as we hopefully get to see some development

This is how one of the kits looked rigjt after opening it.

What do you guys think? Mold or bruising? Put the added topsoil on anyway and put both kits on the shelf in their bags

Thanks for taking a look at it. Yes that overlay does look strange. But since I am a total noob in this field I better ask you guys. Keep you posted!

Hi everybody,
I'd like to ask for some advice please. I got these two copelandia trays. They are pre colonized kits and new on the market so there's little reference. However to my noob eyes the mycelium on top seems to hold a lot of condensation droplets. Is this normal? Also I'm worried about these trays being inside so called humidity bags. Should I move both trays to a fc to provide more fae?
Sorry for the bad pics. They're in bags, in a tub

Your opinions would be very much appreciated!

Got some pins in one of the copelandia kits! I was afraid it was going nowhere at all.

Hi guys,
Some advice would be greatly appreciated:
What is the best way to go with harvesting these Copelandia growkits? Do I cherrypick the bigger ripe fruits and leave the rest to grow for a day more or do I pick the whole thing? My guess is the tray on the right hand side is just about ready?

Any thoughts? Would be a shame if I messed it up. Really want to clone and print these.
Also, does anyone have any ideas on which variety of Copelandia this is? I live in the Netherlands and there's so much competition going on on the market that they keep coming up with these 'new' strains. This one they marketed as Ogre Boy strain.
But what is it, really?
Cheers!

Jakeoncid419 said: Pans do t exactly come in flushes they constantly fruit. Now you will get main harvest days but you pick as they are ready. I’ have noticed that if u pick a fruit from a cluster the rest stall. I don’t know this is a proven fact but it’s def been my experience. If u check out my channel in my sig there is a video of me successfullly cloning several pans (it’s called clones). As for the strain they are just ISO’s (cultures cloned and isolated for specific traits using. Cloning sectoring and hyphae tipping most likely (I can’t wait until I get my microscope back from getting fixed! I got my glass needles I’m ready to try lol) anyway since the kits are living culture they can name and sell their iso’s Something that can not be done if only spores are legal. I have a tray right now pinning that is a iso off a clone. If I continue to clone and isolate until I get a noticeable enough unique trait I could name it something else and sell it (if laws were different) now the cube crosses are something different. This is a cross of genetics between multiple strains of the same species. These genetics will pass on thru the prints. But this is why some places have unique names... they are selling iso’s
Thanks a lot! This is helpful

Asura said: It's like jake said, they do continuously fruit, but there are flushes...it's just hard to tell when one starts and the next begins because they pin quickly and they come in on top of each other in waves.
I would harvest everything, even the small stuff. My experience is the second flush will be even better than the first.
Thanks for the info. I will harvest all of it then. Do I leave the little pins alone or will they not grow out?

So they did it.
I was in Innerspace a few months ago and the woman there told me that the manufacturer has almost got it right with copelandia kits.
Which strain are you growing?
Yes apparently they did it! They call this one the Ogre Boy strain. Nothing wrong with a little marketing:) But what species of paneolus it actually is, I don't know. Would be glad to share some prints so the cracks can tell us what we have here. Just IM me if you're interested

Thanks Asura! Made these prints to share. So IM if you'd like to have one.
Also I think this strain is just a bit more user friendly in the sense that they probably found and isolated an easier to grow substrain so even I could pull it off:)

Yes, you'd have to start all over with the selection process. So if I take a clone it would still have these characteristics? Like easy fruiting ie?

Ah ok. Now I see what you mean. Maybe you can tell what variety it is by raising them up?
My 'clones' that I just took are so full of spores that I doubt I'm cloning anything. If anything grows it will likely be MS too, am I right? Well, at least I put sómething to agar:) We'll see what happens. My next try at cloning however will be with a big cubensis fruit, for sure. Haven't quite got that surgeon's hand yet.. Can't wait to see if it'll grow. Just keep at rt is what I hear.

I'm still very much a noob at all of this. I'll do it like you say in the above next time!
But still, if it grows, we hope to be able to a2g it after a transfer, or several, idk. Making some mistakes can hardly be avoided but usually that's were one learns:) Thanks for sharing that knowledge of yours man!
