I saw them in 2006 and twice in 2011, and his voice sounded fine to me. They sounded bloody awesome every time.

I saw them last year. He cancelled the sold out show because he'd lost his voice. We didn't find out until we were about to go in, which kinda sucked.
They offered refunds or you could come back to a rescheduled gig the following night. Of course we went the next day, but more than half the crowd was empty seats.
Maby he was feeling guilty about the night before, maby the rasp in his voice added something cool to his sound or maby he was feeling the loyalty of those of us who dropped everything to come back a second night??
But it was the best I've ever heard him sound.

Yeah it kinda sucked, but it felt like we got a special show to say sorry. I would have waited again and again to see them.

That's so dope dude great story. I hope that one day I will be able to see them live. I have a strip of some really good acid (my friend got some at that Dead tour a few months ago lol) I scored last month that is strictly for when I see them live. I'll have to end up splitting that bitch like 4 ways with whoever I go with cause it's a wee bit strong lol
I was so tempted to buy tickets to the show they're doing with Primus in Arizona and fly down there! It would have cost me almost $1k though I'm sure if they do ever release their new album they'll do a tour to support it but honestly I would prefer to see their old material live. Like I wish I could time travel and see the 2002 tour lol
BUT YOU NEVER KNOW GUYS, maybe the new album will be their crowning achievement. That's what my little TOOL heart hopes for lol. Although I didn't like 10,000 Days as much as Lateralus it's still definitely worth listening to and if their new album is anything like it I'll still be happy.
I suppose I'm just worried that the whole "electronic music" trend that's gotten popular in last several years will find it's way into their sound.
Don't get me wrong; I dig Puscifer and some of the EDM and trippy electronic that's out there. Electronic is cool in the fact that it opens up infinite possibilities for sound in general. I noticed that the song "Intension" had some weird electronic stuff in the last part of the song, which I thought was groovy.
So I'm trying to say if they incorporate some electronic elements, yeah it will be a new sound for them and if anyone can utilize it to make mindblowing material, it will be them lol.
THAT SAID, I will always prefer the heavy rock sound. You guys all know what I mean; that epic intro to Lateralus, where the guitar transitions from clean to distorted, or The Pot, where he says "You must have been high..", that one riff from The Grudge that comes in when he says "Saturn comes back around, show you everything." THAT is the sound that blows me away.

Adam Jones' actually uses a digital synth in his rig for a ton of sounds in lateralus and 10000 days, also I know carey messes around with modular synths and i believe his mandala drums trigger some sort of drum synth. They've incorporated synths in their sound since Aenima, with the stinkfist intro being most notable I understand what you're getting at though, They won't make it like that, they're too dedicated to making organic, raw, and authentic sounds with their instruments

Yeah I think your right. They will no doubt try some new things musically, but they've always been sure of who they are as a band.

That's really cool! I did know they used those kinds of effects and such, but yeah I'm sure they'll stay based around rock. Like I said, I'm sure I would dig it even if it was more electronic as long as they were creative with it like Radiohead.
I'm just waiting to see more tour dates, but I have a feeling there won't be any big tours until the album drops. I REALLY wish I was going to Monster Mash lol

Lol you mean IF the album drops.
On a sorta related note Puscifer is releasing an album in 10 days and having a tour. IE Maynard is not going to be in the studio making any albums with Tool.

They're about as good at business as they are at music. That's like $50,000 for a Q+A and photos. They'll be thinking, "Suckers."

Don't quote lyrics, man. Anyone know any bands similar to Tool? I've got Melvins, Isis, Grails, Clutch, and Monkey3.

Im all over Rishloo, kind of similar but not at all. Their new album 'Living as ghosts with buildings as teeth' is fucking sweet.
The singer has this like MJK/Freddie Mercury/The parrot from Aladdin, thing going on. It took me a while to get used to them, but they are amazing. A psychedelic sound that rips right through your soul. Just like tool, you just have to listen to them over and over again to get the message.
Listen to it loud....
