propagation of edible mushrooms is usualy done via mycelial culture. the primary reason spores are used fo Psilocybian mushrooms in the us, and some other contries, is that the living tissue is illeagal to posess, while the spores are not.

if you would be willing to wait untill i recieve my next paycheck, i would be happy to send you an agar wedge of shiitake.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

You can just clone store bought buttons. I am trying to get into gourmets also and after doing some research it seems oysters grow on some of the same substrates such as straw. I have a culture of those on the way and if I succeed I will spread some around. Sent the order out and imediately bought a bale of straw and a 20qt pot to pasteurize it in. Why is this damn hobby so exciting?

I've had good results by cloning "not so fresh" commercial pleurotus tissue on PDA H2O2 agar. For easily obtaining a culture it's probably the most simple and cheapest way to start with.
