First time--Fully Colonized Mycobag, Fruiting Quesiton
    #2221561 - 01/05/04 10:38 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

Above are the pictures of my bag. The strain is B+ and it has taken a LOOONG time to fully colonize--I innoculated it on 10/8/03 and now, 3 months later, it's done. I have another bag but I think it's been contaminated (see my next post).... The bags have been in a shoe box in my closet at about room temperature (70 F).

Anyway, I want to fruit the bag now and I wanted some input as to the best way to do that. I would like to try something simple, as it is my first time.

Do you think I should just leave it in the bag and put it near a window? Is that all you have to do? Do I need to control the temperature or is room temperature OK? I've been reading but I'm really unclear on how these bags ultimately get fruited and I've already had one past failure.

Alternatively I am thinking of fruiting in the bag for the first flush, and then dunking and putting it in a tupperware with pearlite?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

not really sure the best way, but just so you know next time you do bags keep the temp higher and it wont take so long to colonize. try around 85 deg.

Y a that second one is contamed. The first time I ever did a bag I fruited it in the bag and then put it in a small rubbermaid on top of a piece of plastic with perlite under it and around but not on the plastic. The second time I fruited in the bag and dunked before second flush and it contamed. Third time I crumbled and cased with great results. So first time just leave it in the bag and fruit it.
this was the first flush in the bag

this was the same myco bag in a rubbermaid next to a casing on its second flush

its creeper by the way

So in the bag I can fruit at room temperature under normal indirect lighting from the window?

fruiting as well as colonizing is sort of temp dependant, if u want big cubs fast id try and make the temp higher then u have it. also for my best results ive only had them in light for about 2 hours a day.. somethin to think about

ya I allway incubate at 86 degrees and fruit at 76. But room temp will do fine. Make sure if you plan on eating them wet 90% of the wet weight is water so 20 grams really only weighs 2 grams and so on

those bags are hardly fully colonized. i would be calm and allow the mycellium to completely encompass the substrate to reduce the possibility of contams. then just give the bag a little light and maybe an hour in the fridge if they are being stubborn. and remember to try and exchange the air in your mycobag, i pull the sides apart to suck in fresh air, the more u do this the better, but be gentle because you dont want to disrupt the pins or mushies.

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
