Private school kids get higher test scores, sure.  They have parents that give a shit and actively take a role in their children's education.  That makes a huge difference.

Parents who emphasize education have children who do well in school. Parents who don't often have children who do poorly.

And THAT is why children from other countries often appear to be 'smarter' than kids in the US.

I lived in Asia for 11 years, and it is intrinsic to most Asian cultures that the parents (especially the mother) spend an inordinate amount of time educating their children before they ever set foot in a school.  It does make all the difference.

In addition, if you go to a Japan, you won't find 'modern' schools--they are just functional.  they don't need to replace school buildings ever 10 years, and you don't see Administration Buildings with marble pillars and administrators with high-gloss teak-wood desks.

It has to do with the waste in the US.  We get taxed 'for the children' and it ends up in a lavish workplace environment for administrators.

Oh, I thought you were saying that had a negative impact on education.

I think there is a lot of waste on sports also. Other, more academic, programs receive little funding in comparison to football alone. Football (and other sports, depending on the school) players are held to different standards too, which does them a disservice.

I think sports are great, and I loved playing them, but sports should take a backseat to education. Not the other way around.

The reason the school system is 'controlled by left-wing whackjobs' is because as people get educated they move away from right-wing garbage.

Look at the right wingers around here. Honestly, take a good look. These are not serious people, or at least people to take seriously. Not the sort anyone wants teaching children. Qman and you are the only two who actually know how to have a fairly intelligent discussion, that I can think of.

Right-wing politics aren't even a bad thing in my mind (though I disagree with most of it). However, they have devolved into the party of idiot, gun toting, religious nutcases who salute figures like Michelle Bachman, Sarah Palin, and fucking Glenn Beck/Alex Jones.

Ummmm no.  Schools and colleges weren't dominated by left wing idiots until the hippie losers from my generation started to take it over and teacher unions became powerful.  That's why I got an education and you didn't

This is once again going back to importance of party fidelity. The right-wing went so overboard with incompetent leading figures that it produced a fungus, Trump, who is now poisoning the spectacle, albeit in a way, in a very subtle way - yeah, I know, right, Trump associated with subtlety - the stage in which the electoral side of politics takes place.

My analogy for Trump in contrast to other leading figures, such as Bush or Kasich, is that you can always count on the political-game to be dishonest, and you cannot count with Trump's honesty. Instead on betting on the impossible, it seems interesting to try to work with the possible forcing the dishonesty to favor collective interests more than whining like babies (as Democrats did when Bush was president).

Sometimes we have to ask ourselves, is our children learning?

Anyway, outside of the education system failing Bush jr. the point I was making is that education policies are hardly part of some left wing, hippie conspiracy.  Looks like it's a bipartisan issue for the most part outside of the far right that believes everything should be privatized.

Speaking of parties who produced fungus, look at that fungus covered turd that the d's floated into office.  Obama, what a fucking joke.

And if we're honestly going to compare liberal schools and conservative schools, it's not even a comparison.

No shit! I believe in Louisiana gives huge grants to any stupid redneck bold enough to attempt college, because the entire state is so fucking uneducated. They should stick to moonshine. I swear, the South is like a ball and chain on the heals of modern society. Or better yet, a todler clenching the leg of progress, dragged along kicking and screaming, bitching about titty milk (welfare) while sucking the fucking tit off. Making "museums" and "universities" devoted to spreading disinformation (Liberty University and the creationist museum) and criticizing critical thinking.

What's really confusing is that some drug-culture people want Big Government Socialism to control the daily lives of people including drug use. WTF happened?

Why can't you survive without Big Gov there to tell you what to buy, how to live, etc?
