Do shrooms really "bring memories to life"?

I watched the Shrooms VS Alcohol video and the guy said that shrooms have the common ability to bring memories to life. Personally, I have a lot of memories I would love to revisit in greater detail than a fuzzy image. If this is true, I would absolutely love to try shrooms, instead of sticking with my stance of never touching the stuff.

IMHO and limited experience, they make the feelings associated with memories very real. So, for me, If I recall something concerning I will feel concerned as if it was happening but with more clarity. Another example on high dose, I once missed my family and in the hyperspace I could see glimpses of their faces as they passed me by. Though their image was fleeting, the emotion I had associated with them was very real.
Therefore for you, in the correct set, setting and dosage, if you were to focus on a specific memory then your feelings that are now a memory could come back to you as if you were experiencing it again with equal emotion and feelings.
You must remember it is very hard to put a meaningful mushroom experience into words and make it understandable to the non-observer. Many try and many can do it reasonably well, but the experience ultimately transcends language in the end.

I've had potent trips bring memories surging back from my early childhood -- memories that I didn't even realize were still there. It was like the mushrooms reached deep into the smallest, furthest crevices & forgotten cracks of my mind to pull these out.
And then relived them in my mind like they were happening all over again, with a vividness as if the memory occurred yesterday.
Really bizarre shit. Only happens on my really, really DEEP trips, though. But yeah, it does happen from time to time.

Exactly. They're pretty well known for doing that - psychedelics in general too. That's part of what has constituted psychedelic therapy in the dim misty past - and might do so again in the future.

I would say reliving past memories on shrooms is a rare exerience. Its only happened to me a couple times, one time on a large pan cyan dose.
It does happen, but u can also have no "memory reliving" and just get lost in the trip. Really depends on where the trip is taking u.
I will say taking shrooms does make remembering past psychedelic trips much easier, even of different substances (like cacti or LSD), thanks to state-dependent memory. And its pretty cool to "relive" past trips. Again, its kinda rare, not really predictable when u will have a memory recall trip.

It will happen if you want it to happen, IME. It's a great way to work out hidden or buried memories.

It's happened to me before, so yes it can happen...
But am I the only one wondering why you signed up to a Mushroom based drug forum, have over 500 posts, and swore to never try magic mushrooms...

Well you don't actually "re-live" the memory per say, you might get some visions or you might think about it really vividly. A lot of times I get very brief flashes of a ridiculous amount of memories in quick succession, like the smallest and most random things that I for some reason can recall perfectly.
I doubt my opinion matters much to you on this matter, but you shouldn't be afraid to try shrooms. Judging by the title of the vid you watched(you absolutely cannot compare shrooms to alcohol by the way, that video should never even have been made) then I assume you are contempt with drinking. Shrooms are one of the least "toxic" drugs in existence, maybe even more-so than pot, CERTAINLY a million times better for you than alcohol/cigarettes. Funny how those are the legal ones, isn't it.
The only negatives I can think of for doing shrooms are fear of bad trips, fear of breaking the law, or just not having the time to devote a day to it...or you have been told one of a plethora of completely false rumors about shrooms or heard stories about idiots jumping off their balconies.

I want to relive past experiences with very close friends and loved ones who no longer exist anymore. I might have to give shrooms a try at some point in time. I don't want to confuse this with living in the past, it's just their faces aren't as vivid as they used to.
If you trip on shrooms, should you try to control the trip or just let it take you where it needs to? I'm not concerned about having a bad trip. I think I've had them before with just weed, and as far as I am concerned it was very insightful and completely based around my fears in life(which I have rectified since).

Yes, they do bring memories to life. But, don't think you are going to tell them which ones you want to revisit and which you never want to hear from again. They are just as likely to drag up the latter as they are to revivify the former.

Surrender. That is the key to it all: Surrender. Learning the basics of meditation can help accomplish this by learning to control your breathing and relaxing your mind to allow a fuller Surrender.
Having a decent Set(how you feel leading up to the experience, perhaps focusing on what you hope to accomplish) and a proper Setting(somewhere safe and intruder free, but maybe a trusted sitter in a nearby room) can go a long way in "aiming" the trip. But after you say your prayer to the mushroom and ingest them you will be at their mercy, they will be merciful, and at that point it is best to Surrender your mind and body to them and allow whatever flows through you to flow freely.
By doing these steps you can prime yourself for the experience and more easily absorb the messages conveyed to you, be it images, thoughts, or feelings.
So take your time as there is no rush and indeed a bit of a learning curve. Ultimately only you, through multiple trials, will be able to determine how to guide yourself. Good luck, fellow Psychonaut.
