Substrate additives to help increase yield
    #22206641 - 09/08/15 10:49 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I've been working on using 64 quart tubs for some time now and I get pretty good results using just four and germ as my substrate.  In the pursuit of knowledge and improving my yields I am curious to know what people add into the substrate that may result in higher yields.  I added coffee grinds some time ago but seemed to always have mold issues.  I have added gypsum by didn't see a yield difference.  I want to know what people add to their substrate recipes that help to increase yield.  Your mycology input is always welcomed and appreciated.  Thanks

what is "four and germ" as a substrate?

it rhymes with "coir and verm" but one never knows….

Well I know they like brf, and pasty plates agar uses potato flakes so that too. I have some growing in cacti soil outdoors. Other than that and what you listed

I use a good clone/genetics to get yield..

yeah that's probably the easiest way to do it for a newb!
however I feel its wasteful of clean spawn which is by far the hardest part to get down in this hobby.
You'd get more total from using 10-12 qt jars in 2 tubs instead of 1.

I've had lots of good flushes in the big mono tubs.  Yields were good.  I know some of the yield has to do with the density of the fruits which is why I'm now growing PE.  I do plan on using more mono tubs as well but I'd like to get the largest yield possible per tub before I expand.  I'm more curious as to what additives people use in their spawn and I am curious if it actually helps with yield.  I hear that coffee grinds and work castings help out.  As I pointed out earlier I only got contaminants  when I used the coffee grinds.  So with that said and the plan of increasing the amount of tubs, and the specific "genetics" of PE.  What additives would be beneficial, even if it allowed me to get one extra flush?  I am very much aware that increasing the amount tubs will get me to my goal, but in the pursuit of knowledge id like to know if anything can help increase it

Why would you dunk your grains before you spawn them?  Wouldn't that possibly allow a contaminant. To take hold?

additives are only one thing, and not even a huge thing and i would say the best additive is gypsum, other then that focus on genetics and conditions

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn
