How iSmkGrnBud makes his SAB

So I got around to making my next journal entry, making a SAB. We all know a SAB is an absolute must while working as an amateur mycologist. They're very cheap and easy to make. Upside down tote with armholes. The concept is simple, an enclosed area with armholes to perform clean work. You can probably find a million links to making these things. Here is how I make mine.

Never understood why people don't buy totes with clear lids.

Because you don't use the tote lid with the SAB. You want to place the upside down tote with no lid onto a clean towel. I do this on a hard, sturdy table.

Yes I do. As long as it gets the job done I guess.

I wasn't talking about you specifically. I could care less what you do. Sorry mate. This is in reference to this thread/guide. You do not use the lid. Simple as that.

Cool I have the same setup. Same tote and all, bought it because of how tall it was. Also use mine upside down on a towel. Just don't use a clean towel every time I use the same one over a couple times spray the shit out of it with bleach before use. Then after using it a couple times switch to a clean towel. I hate using a SAB though I miss doing my work in open in in my clean room wish I never moved. I need to build a flow hood. A SAB is just uncomfortable to work in IMO. Plus just cant get as good of a view when working in a SAB.

Made yourself some one piece lids eh? Siliconed them to the ring upside down?
You like them? I've considered doing this.

well thats how i used to do it, but i don't anymore.
i just couldn't get myself to trust silicone or RTV all that much. its more paranoia than anything, but after a few runs in PC, i could feel it peeling.
but, when u look around at who is using them, its all great people and growers, so its probably just in my head
but if i were to do it again, i'd do it that way, yea. one piece lids are worth it IMO.

No I never really have any issues at all. I just get the tips of my fingers under the lip of the lid and with the base of my thumb push down near the edge of the lid opposite from my fingers, and gently pry up. Once in a good while ill have to fight to get one off.
No I haven't gave it any thought. Next round of lids I make ill have to try it that way.

I know what you're saying. Sometimes it's a pain working in a SAB. Especially when something goes wrong while doing work in one, I spilled a whole batch of agar once. Fucking rediculous lol. Unfortunately I've never gotten to work with a flowhood. I plan on making one sometime hopefully in the near future.

Not if you tear the sealant out. Those upside-down lids slide around too easily.

Build a better SAB.... Bigger and with a clear flat front.

I don't have any issues with visibility or amount of space. Bigger would be better, but it's not of a concern really.
