5-htp giving a psychedelic buzz?

Hey everyone. Recently I've been taking 5-htp twice every few days for every other week. Each time I take the supplement I notice a change in my perspective. I easily slip into this psychedelic headspace. Also I have significant visual enhancement. Colors are extremely vivid and outlines are thicker. Things look like I'm on mushrooms minus the distortions and patterns. I get this sense of well being around 45 minuets after taking this and it's making me wonder if serotonin plays a role in how we perceive life. Maybe since serotonin is a tryptamine I'm noticing the effects of it more since I've been using tryptamine psychedelic semi frequently? Had anyone else noticed this? I also noticed that my mind is more quiet and I'm pretty much just here along with everything else. It's strange.

Step 2: Look at this after following step one
Step 3: Enjoy the mini trip

Have you done a lot of MDMA/amps/meth? Perhaps 5-htp is affecting you dramatically because you have depleted your seretonin dramatically? Maybe its just placebo?

Ah, the classic placebo effect. I love that too.
Watch out though with 5HTP 99 percent of the serotonin ends up in your gut and your heart. It is actually dangerous to use 5HTP cause it is very bad for your heart vales.
Google 5htp heart valve.

It's actually gross if you think about it. Only a small fraction of a percent of the serotonin ends up in your brain and the rest just chills in places it shouldn't be.
The reason you feel a little nauseous on it is cause the serotonin binds to receptors in your gut I think. I could be wrong on that one tho.
It is bad for your heart tho and doesn't do crap for depression in terms of long term safety if I were a doctor I would prescribe you and SSRI over 5HTP.
l-trytophan found in turkey is way better cause it all goes to your brain. But even then just eating turkey or taking the supplement will not do anything substantial for any mood disorders.

How about not taking a prescription drug for life and solving it naturally?

I've used quite a lot of adderall last year. I do have hppd tho and maybe this increases the visual effects? I've told myself many times that it is placebo however the effects are still present. I also have crazy vivid dream on days I use it which I didn't expect. I don't give into the placebo effect easily. I've eaten bunk tabs of acid wanting to trip so badly and felt nothing.

My family has a history of depression. My sis, mom and dad are on SSRI's and for all of them it really was a game changer and for my sister especially it really helped her and she got her degree and all that.
For a lot of people whatever they do nothing works and if SSRI's help them then good for them I am happy.
Not everyone can do it naturally some people are just clinically depressed and for some people the SSRI's do help.

I assume its your brain recovering from the adderall. In which case I would say to double up and start taking ltyrosineQuote:

I guess I can agree with that then. But pharma's shouldn't be the "go-to"

If your going to take it, then take L-Tryptophan instead. L-Tryptophan fully reaches it to the brain, and Tryptophan may be converted into natural DMT or something?

Google 5htp heart valve.
The burden of proof is on you for bringing it up
google found me this
Quote:
Q: I've heard that the elevation of blood serotonin levels (caused by taking 5-HTP) can cause coronary artery spasm, abnormal platelet aggregation, and increased risk of death by sudden heart attack.
A: That would certainly be a concern, if it were true. However, we could find nothing in the scientific literature to support these contentions.

Not to mention that your GI tract is fully capable of using your available serotonin. He really doesn't know what he's talking about.
