Not trich, but is it bad?
    #22200712 - 09/07/15 06:34 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Hi people,

Please have a look at my suspect jar.

This one is called jar 8 (Cambodian), it's now 4 weeks old:

It's not trich, but is it sick?
My other, healthy, jars do not have this "coastline" feature with the light brown tint, can you see what I mean?
Should I toss the jar? (ie, I'll re-cook it closed, remove the dead cake and make a new one)

I know it doesn't look good, but it was one of my dream-team jars, fast growth, beautiful rhizo, I'd be sad to let it go...

Love, Hanz.

It looks toast. That brown ridge is the meeting point of 2 molds/fungi

Hey Hanz

I have never re-cooked contamned jars, especially this little. Just open it outside, toss it and wash the jar well and you are good.

I would also wait a few more days how it develops, but that's just my never-ending curiosity

OR you could just cut the unhealthy part and keep the rest of the cake. This is risky though...

The meeting point of two fungi, at least one of which is not healthy mycelium, right?

This isn't just two mycs meeting up. So that means the jar is really lost.

...

Hi jcop, nice of you to chime in.

I know, not everybody does recooking, it may be a little paranoid, but it is so little effort, for now I just do it anyway.

Did you see my grow log in the noob forum? Of my 24 jars there are only 14 left, and even those are not yet certain. Ouch. Most didn't grow at all, hardly any trich. So I'm confident my procedure was hygienic, just some bad luck with the spores.

I'm going to inoculate another 8 jars today, .. keep fighting!

Love, Hanz.

I sure did. You will get your rating when I see boomers...

Dude, stay positive. I only got some fruits on my 3rd attempt and they were super-tiny, the good grow was 4th attempt. After that I already overcooked my rice which didn't colonize at all (I was like - is the substrate bad, or the LC bad??) and am now 4 days into inoculation of another sub and starting to see white. This hobby surely teaches one a lot of patience

Consider LC or GLI (thats what I'm trying now), speeds up the cake colonization a little bit and seem more certain to me...

Sorry for OT and for your losses, but you still have 14 to get something outta
