Question about making Salvia cuttings... Is it too soon for my plant?

Hey guys,
I would like to take a cutting of my Salvia plant at the red line shown below, while removing and drying the leaves marked with an x.
Should I wait until the new growth on the lower nodes grow a little more? Or should I be alright to take this cutting? I pinched the protoleaf about a week ago on the top of the main stem, if this makes any difference. Thanks for the help!
Sorry, this image turned out big as fuck

I think youre probably fine to take the cutting off the top and clone it, id probably cut it closer to the node tho, like 1/4 an inch above the new branches, but i would leave the two X leaves on the main plant until the two small branches develope more, just so your plant doesnt lose all its large leaves at once, ya know?
How are you planning on cloning the top piece ?

Alright, thanks for the info. I'll leave those bigger guys on there. As for cloning, I was thinking of doing 9/1 perlite to verm and rooting that way, instead of the traditional water method. I want to see how well it works and avoid rot. Mainly because the main stem is slowly getting a darker brown, which I'm not sure if it's from root rot or it's just beginning to become woody.

I agree with salviagod. Leave the large leaves on the plant you have X'd out. No reason to take them off. The cutting should be okay to take, but if it were me, I would let the plant get a bit bigger first. Up to you though.
