Hello Shroomery, i went out to the coast from cannon beach to astoria and found nothing. Later i went to a local and golf course and found these fellas. There were more but i left out the ones that were too small or clearly not pan subb. I hope to eat theae with syrian rue today! Most prints are black but some are lighter and hard for me to tell the difference. Also is there any key aspects that distinguish Subbs from the rest look-alikes beside the occasional blueing butt?

Can a fellow shroomer get a second opinion from an expert? Im sure some of these are actives a few may not be. What am I missing ? How can i be sure which ones are subbalteatous and not just a look alike? What is unique to the ambiguous panaeolus cinctulus?

I'm not totally convinced but my opinion when it comes to this species means jack shit. I hate identifying these things. I would say they are cincts though....just the spore print doesn't appear to be jet black in some of the pictures IMO.

The ones with jet black prints are cincts, compare with a sharpie. In the picture in 4 sections, the top left picture shows a cinct for sure even looks like slight blue8ng near the base. I see prints that are not jet black tho, so compare all prints with a black sharpie

Thanks for the sharpie advice, to my surprise it seems i weeded out 90 percent of not subbalteatous with out having to print them. It was hard to tell on the lighter prints but with a magnifying glass and a led light they are without a doubt black. It's only 2.7 grams half dried so il try to find more or add a tab of acid to the mix.
I've done a lot of reading and was pretty sure these were subbs but had doubts because of variations in stem cap and gills. Thought they are weak species I'm happy as heck to find active panaeolus I've always wanted to trip hard on these, my first ever find were azzies but am happier to find these.

I never heard good things about mixing acid with mushrooms. It has been a long time since I have looked into it though. Good thing you weeded some Foes out...but Foes (I believe) are harmless; I think that is what they were.
