taking care of my San Pedro

Hey I just got my first San Pedro cactus today. Hopefully I get more soon so I can hopefully cut them and replant them. That way I could have a little cactus garden.
My question is how often should I water it?
I bought it at a flee market and the guy didn't know the name to any of his plants. So he couldn't give me much information on taking care of it or how often I should water it.
Also should I apply fertilizer to help it grow? Or is that not good for it?
The soil feels a little moist right now so I'm assuming it's good for the moment

Let the soil dry and then water.

I'd wrap a piece of white paper around the base of the pot to keep it cool

I'd fertilize every watering. Only use cactus frets though.

Alright thank you. So should I wait till the soil gets completely dry before I water it again?
Like every two weeks or once a month?

Yup because you know how big the roots are
Especially since he never showed them.
It's a big enough cactus to take some ferilizer. It's not a cutting but a rooted cactus.
If anything I would get it in a larger pot. I use the miracle grow cactus dirt. Works great. I also use MG cactus ferts.

If I move it to a bigger pot. I just pull it out with all its root and just transfer it right?
The more room it has for the roots to grow the bigger and thicker it gets?

Actually yea I do. The roots will have filled up that tiny pot. If he lets them grow a littlem they will accept ferts better. Not that I have any experience with cacti, especially san pedro.

Yup pretty much, try to be gentle while removing the root wad.
Edit:make sure to add more soil to the bigger pot lol just so you know. Some people just haven't had plant growing experiences enough to know about silly things like that.

Thanks man. I'll definitely be careful with the roots. Any specific soil I should get. I was going to try to find anything used for cactus

Miracle grow is not recommended for cacti. I use MG organic without ferts, and cut it with perlite. But MG is definitely not recommended. There are many great soil blends if you use the search function.
If you do use MG, look for one that does not have moisture retention, and you probably want to cut in perlite to make it drain better.
I currently have over 100 potted san pedros and about 150 seedlings. I also have another 75+ potted cacti, and an additional 100 seedlings of other types of trichocereus and cactus.

MG citrus and cacti soil has worked just fine for my cacti. Same with MG cacti ferts.

Haha I'm just kidding man
I wouldn't doubt that you have a dick load of pedros growing
But mine seriously do great with just MG products. Everyone wants to hate on MG like it's poison but Naah it works just fine.

Most are from cuttings...Ive got about 75 or so that are really established with awesome roots.
Ive got another 75 that just rooted and pupped this year.
The established cacti, I have been growing for between 1-3 years. My oldest cacti are about 10-11...I bought them at 8 years.
The seedlings will take another year before they go outside...those don't take long to grow.

Nice man. I'm hoping to have something like that going on in a few years or so. I made 4 cuttings of a 3 footer. I put them in an open container outside in the shade.
Once they're dried completely how much longer will it take them to root?

its all genetics. I've had cuttings root within 7-10 days before and I've had cuttings go months.

Oh that's not too bad. That's a lot faster then I thought.
I put the cuttings in an open plastic container outside in the shade. Should I also keep the original cactus in the shade while it heals from the cut?

Also another question. After they have rooted and are planted correctly how long does a typical cutting take to grow some pups

Oh I thought it took a lot longer. That's tight. Hopefully I get more than one pup on each cutting
