They require colder temperatures to fruit and for mycelial growth than psilocybe cubensis. The mycelia can grow on grains, but they are a wood loving mushroom, and would be better off grown on wood substrates.

Oh, you'll get cyan mycelium to grow on grain, but good luck getting it to fruit.

Stamets suggests fresh alder chips, and I'm not aware of him ever pointing someone in the wrong direction.

I wouldn't bother with cyans if you're not using agar to isolate a pure strain and if you aren't at least doing cased tray cultures, but then again, I'd say the same thing of cubes as well.

Ultimate suggestion: read. Read, read, read read. Then try, fail, tray again, and repeat untill successful. In the end, that's how you grow anything.

Casing is not required - especially casing with horsepoo. Casing should not contain nutrients.

hehehe  good advice Teon. that's what I do and keep doing , last investiment was on the "mushroom cultivator" and if knew what I read today I would't ask that question , but I'm pretty sure I can grow ps. cyan without agar (much easier altough)...

...but probably not on the first time :P hehehe

As Zeronio said Parpas, casing is not supposed to contain nutrients, although i've heard people adding worm casting to their casing, for its structure, which does contain some nutrients. I think Anno posted a link some time ago, that mixing horse manure and woodchip in the right ratio resulted in fruits. I'd have to do a search to find it though.

As far as growing out mycelium, you could try to obtain a pure strain, and spawn it to wbs or millet (Anno spawns his ps. azurescens to millet I believe) From here you'll have to go to alder woodchips and try to get the substrate to fruit.

Stamets says:
Another Method is to use sawdust/bran or try grain spawn to innoculate corrugated  cardboard. When fully colonized, sheets of cardboard are laid at the bottom of trays which are then covered with 2-4 inches of freshly cut alder chips (wood chips are far superior to sawdust as a fruiting substrate)

You could try, but better stick to Cubensis and maybe some Paneaolus first.

Good Luck though :sun:
