Anyone here collect stamps or know a good deal about it?
Many years ago I was given a pretty extensive stamp collection, most over 50 years old. I really don't care about them, in fact as is, I probably only remember them once a year. What are the chances they are really worth anything? I tried once before looking them up as if they were coins (I used to be a coin collector) but I didn't really get anywhere.
The nearest place to have something like that appraised or bought, is probably an hour+ away. I really don't want to make that trip on the off chance they're worth something. I know this is difficult to just answer over the internet, based on this information, but someone out there has to be a collector and have some kind of idea how common or rare stamps that worth something are, and whether it's likely I have anything of value. The collection has hundreds, maybe even a thousand plus. Last time I looked at them, which was probably almost 10 years ago now, they were all pristine. They haven't been postmarked or anything.

Sorry, these aren't as fun to lick. If they were, I wouldn't even have the collection at this point.

I don't know much about stamps but with coins the condition makes a huge difference in value if something is otherwise rare and in demand. If there is a lot of old stuff in great condition then maybe there is something valuable in there. Might be worth getting a book on stamps or something, or joining a stamp forum and posting pics. The risk with going to a dealer is that it's hard to know if you're getting some extreme lowball offer for something valuable if they can tell you don't know the first thing about the subject.

I've got a bunch of rare coins I inherited from both my grandfathers. I'll bet some of them are worth some coin.
