thats awesome man!!
Started spores on agar > grain spawn > transfered to woodchips and kept expanding to colonise containers. This one had been sitting fully colonised for over 6 months all through winter.
I suspect the cold snaps we had this winter which froze the container (it doesnt freeze or snow here) helped triggered it to fruit so quickly.
They look super potent and bruise heavily.
More pins coming too

they started fruiting just after the cold spells disappeared and the rain came in. i noticed a pin so soaked it in water to make it flush better.
the temperatures havent been going much below 8degrees C here lately, but then not going over 18 during the day. we are in early spring here, but i did have some stray ovoids pop up in an old project in about may/june during winter but were always destroyed by snails.
Seems these things will fruit pretty relentlessly when they do fruit. that cluster was 140g fresh/14g dry. Im really happy with the size of them

So nice to seee that is a healthy patch you grew!!! I'd also like to know what kind of woodchips you used. I have some ovoid mycelium in a mixture of everything, mostly leafy wood not so much pine and it's jammin. would love to find out what ovoids favorite is.. I'm sure though a mix is a good balance. Thanks

Beautiful, ovoids are my favorite. I look forward to finding them every year. They can be very potent, had a level three off 14g fresh my first time and fell in love, they are more visual and the come up is more intense but in a good way IMO. I have been wanting to do an outdoor bed myself, and seeing this gets me pumped. I put some spores from spring on some agar on the 27th, checked it today and saw some growth

fuckin A. u r my hero man, those are beautiful in a way only ovoids can be
i've only gotten them from wild patches. was not blown away by potency, seemed like cubes (trip was smoother, easier on the body, but in terms of intensity, it didn't seem really strong, although i liked it more), wondering what your take on potency is with those guys, and if u think there is difference btw wild and cultivated, like you have there.

I haven't eaten any ovoids yet, I get a feeling they are strong but I am quite sensitive to the actives. Did you try them fresh or dry? I am thinking ill try some fresh ones in a couple days when they are more ready. we don't have these in the wild here so cant really say what differences there would be. Smoother experience sounds what I am after

The biggest cap pictured in the latest cluster is actually close to 5" in diameter, and still hasn't opened up fully.
My last flush didn't fully flatted out their caps either but were producing spores.
They look like they are wearing little pointy wizard hats to me, do ovoids usually do this or am I being impatient and should they open up more?

i've eaten them fresh and dry. seemed similar, except fresh came on much faster. that is a large cap size!! not sure on wizard hat (i've noticed cubes do this too occasionally), the ones i pick look like this

if u want prints, maybe wait. check out "psylymonreturns" and i think he has an indoor grow where he talks about caps and printing.

I'm so going to try this over the winter.
Could it be as simple as leaving a tub full of colonized woodchips outside all winter and getting fruits in the spring?

I just made a pint master. I dropped the lid inside the SAB and the inside of the lid touched some shit so the master might contam, but it was an old plate anyway. I made some transfers and I'm putting more on grain once the transfers grow out.

Got a question, maybe someone can help. I have never seen ovoid myc on agar, only in the wild. I swabbed spores on agar in the center of a couple plates. This one plate has white growth along the sides that is different from the center, doesn't look as rhizo as I have seen elsewhere. Is it a contamination or maybe some spores came off the swab and landed near the side? Trying to figure out before I transfer or do anything else. sorry about the pic, I only have the camera on the phone, this is the best pic out of about 15 shots.

they go rhizo VERY quickly IME. these are germination plates from wild print.

edit: obviously, the last two were bacterial, but just wanted to show with wild prints or clones especially, its good to do a handful of plates….u never know whats going down on the forest floor
