P. Cinctulus find?

I've been reading Stamets and other authorities on shrooms for many years. I found the attached growing out of a well-rotted cow patty. These show up every year about now (southern hemisphere). I am getting close to taking a nibble. Please let me know if I am completely off base with this.
thanks

You're mad not getting a positive ID on your shroom. 1's not going to do anything anyway unless its poisonous and then it'll do a whole lot. Wait for a trusted identifier before you go and kill yourself

The cap looks strange, but the mushroom itself reminds me Panaeolus antilarum.
Should still see what a TI says though
Edit: Welcome to the shroomery!

It's Panaeolus papilionaceus I'm sure, not active.

Thank you. I have a nice B&L microscope. Heres a crude pic of the spores. 470X ...To me, they look similar to those on the wiki page for P. cinctulus. This specimen was collected after a rain followed by a lot of direct sun...i think the cap got dried out a bit.

I just looked at the wiki page for Panaeolus papilionaceus and I have to agree. The cap looks the same as what i see here. I dont see the characteristic ring pattern the the photos of P. cinc show.
Thanks!

i'm not sure your spores are conclusive.
they all look similar in that genus under that mag.
but good job including the pic
to differentiate between species you'll want to look for cystidia and be able to measure spore sizes.

I was wondering about P. papilionaceus spores...now I know. No obvious difference. but my one and the pap photos are so similiar I will assume that is the correct ID. I will not fall for them again, just keep on keepin on. Sooner or later I've got to hit paydirt.
Thank you all very much.
My plan is to find a species that I can culture under wraps. Something that stains blue with blue/violet print and can be grown on homemade media. I am fearful of buying in spores...already been caught once by customs for no-script import. No charges but I'm "in the computer". NZ, PNorth area
I just read up on cystidia. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/microscope_cystidia.html Cheers Rural A. Call me a chauvinist, but a mushroom is just a sex object! heh
