Dripping of condensation...is it a threat?
    #2219279 - 01/04/04 11:29 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I've read it somewhere that it is a threat. How big of a problem can drops of condensation from the top of a growing chamber falling on the shrooms really be? Should I construct a slanted mid-partition that allows the drips to roll down to the sides or is there really any threat? I have also read of people smearing Vaseline on the underside of their chambers to avoid the collection of water droplets. Your thoughts are appreciated. - CH -

I read somewhere that the drops of water falling on the growing mushrooms will cause them to abort

depends on how bad the drips are,if it's just a drip every once in awhile i wouldn't worry about it.
avoid vaseline it contains petroleum compounds which can cause mutations in your shrooms.
some tooth paste on a cloth and wiped over the underside of the lid will prevent condensation forming, but again you may have issues with the chems in toothpaste.
you could check out the sprays that scuba divers use to stop there masks fogging up.

I wouldnt worry about it.

If the room temperature is cold, and you put an aquarium heater in your fruiting chamber, then there is a higher chance of getting condensation.

If you have a lot of big drops dropping on shrooms, the one thing it usually causes is bacterial blotch, which is pretty damn common. Its unharmful as long as the mushrooms have been dried completely before consuming.

if you are extremely worried you could place something under the front two corners of your terarrium to tilt it back at an angle thus makeing the dropletls on the roof roll down also by makeing the perlite thiner in the front end and deeper in the back end it will keep the ground level while still giving the roof a slant, i seem to remember reading that a while back but have no idea where it came from.
