Little patch I found this morning in a mix of evergreen and hardwood chips in Kitsap County. Left most of them, but there's always next year.

Todays hunt with Monsieur Slytail, first some shots of the usual wetland Cyanescens

Then, we found a new area where they were growing under the blackberries; these were VERY delicate, small guys - never seen cyans this small, many had caps the size of a dime and yet they were all opened up and sporifying all over the place

And then, my very first wild forest cyans, found growing directly off of alder debris in many cases

Also, as an aside, is this a lib? (I've never found a lib before) This little guy was found growing out of a tuft of grass under which I was picking some cyans and its sticky, viscid cap seemed kinda psilly to me...

-------------------- Found Species: Ps. Azurescens, Ps. Cyanescens, Ps. Baeocystis, Ps. Semilanceata, Pan. Cinctulus

The blurry ones in the first picture were the size of dinner plates, that's the only reason I included such a not great picture. Not actually dinner plates, but that's how big my eyes got when I saw the size of them.

I couldn't stop tripping ( ) over them. Azzies everywhere today. I saw two deer about fifteen feet away eating something in an area so I checked to see. Saw some boletes (?) as I moved through past some pines/grass mix. Then mycena and moss, followed by grass, then won the jackpot. Beautiful deer too. Led me to a new patch. I'm expecting over an ounce dry just from 2 hours picking and I screwed around forgetting where my patch was. Probably more like 1.5, these stems were so thick it was almost hard pulling them out.
Lost my old patch location so I looked for that tiny pin from yesterday. She was still there and I got my bearings. Gotta love leaving those! I told you guys it was good luck!
After I was done picking I took a semi-side route back to where I parked my car. Every footstep or so I found one or more, ended up getting 30 or so just keeping my eyes down and to the right. Always always always do this.
I turned back around and walked on the same side for a different view and found even more. They were right next to a structure so no shots, had to make that so quick, and it'd give away the patch. I could see my car at this point.
Enough talk, let's throw some cute pics down.
The type of habitat I like starting at and working my way forward into thicker. Had the best luck in places like this. I walked out with two full paper bags. I'm expecting an ounce and a half dry or maybe even two.
Hiding.

Two friends chilling on the weekend.
Brothers hanging out, wondering what just happened.
I have three more trays like this. This is five hours after picking, bagging and setting them up. They bruised my dark brown paper bag blue. Check out those stems!
For next week or my picking 'buddy' that I run into every day at the same time.
Classic psilocybe azurescens.
Smooching, aww! So cute. Notice the scattered bluing before I even touched them.

I left plenty of babies for next week and saw probably another 100-150 pins. Some weren't completely mature and the other picker was around. I had my fill, gotta look out for our brothers and sisters.
...I did almost get caught though. I was down on one knee picking picking picking. I had no way to see a bicycle path. Guy stopped and yelled "are you doing what I think you're doing?!". I asked if he could please help sir, told him about my bad back spasms making me fall like that. He helped me to my feet. Counted how many paces, went back with the quickness before he "circled" around again.
I *hated* doing that and using my bad back as an excuse, and after he got me up he said it was a good thing he came to help me because he was about to call the cops since "people do bad and immoral things out here".
Best of luck everyone.. be careful.. situational awareness can save you from a cage. I was not paying attention and brushed it off. Should've started walking away when I thought that maybe I heard something. Getting arrested would've been entirely my fault if he was a cop, or called them, I thought I might have heard something over the wind.
Stupid stupid stupid mistake on my part.
Sorry for the long winded post, but I'm 4 for 4 now with new patches in my first season and wow...
And hey maybe I can help a beginner with these habitat shots. Tons more, but no need to spam I guess.

Ya I've never seen any cyans that matured so small in size. Those were found in alder bed though, very delicate.

Oh why thank you!
I'm so happy to be doing this and exploring the PNW. My prints are coming along nicely it appears. And eh, he kinda scanned the ground a little, looked like he's there often. No vagrants or homeless, very upscale area, I'm pretty sure he knew. =/ But I can only speculate and, either way, it could've ended badly. I knew I should've stood up when I heard something "not quite like the wind" and walked away.. It paid off though and I'm having a blast!!
Keep the pics coming and nice finds, especially those wild cyans.

Cyans and azzies are like cubes in that they are more potent when aborted or when they've dropped spores already right? When do cyans/azzies reach the point in which they're gaining more fruit body and less actives?

That's really cool man. Like how wild are these? Where they in a park or something? can you elaborate on the habitat a little but more? Is this like a wetland reclamation project or something?

I thought I've read multiple times that a growing pin has all the actives that it will ever get. Please respond/correct me if I'm off base.

They were in a very alder-y forest near a certain coastal graveyard. There was a lot of woody debris that seemed natural as well as felled trees near the margin of the graveyard, presumably cut down for the benefit of the cemetery. They were growing in an area with a lot of that wood on the ground, sometimes directly from decomposing mossy alder branches. It is near some wetlands projects where I am accustomed to picking grass cyans; I stumbled upon these while in search of more such areas

JAH, that's interesting. I have a cyan bed that crawled into the blackberry thicket and they were quarter size max. I'll have to test their strengths now.
