CS you are doing it right. Also look under leaves on and around the beds you find. I had a patch fruit and rot before I realized they were there.

This seems to be the grind, yes - especially if you are new to serious hunting, as I am. But as they say, persistence pays off. It's starting to for me. So keep at it!

As for people seeing you... I've had good luck avoiding this by going while it's raining. And security is less of an issue in public spaces than if you're trespassing. How you dress and act also matters... a few days ago an old lady walking her dog saw me emerge (sack of shrooms in hand) from a brushy habitat-restoration area right next to the "keep out" sign I had disobeyed. She looked at me suspiciously, but I smiled at her and at her dog, and held out my hand for the dog to lick and pretended to be happy to meet it. I succeeded in striking up a short conversation about the great work they're doing in restoring natural habitat near wetlands, and she and I both left smiling and wishing each other a nice afternoon. But if I'd had punky or unkempt hair/clothes instead of the clean-cut, guy-next-door look... this might not have worked so well.

So found a nice lil patch of pellies with some interesting characteristics. Some were quite stumpy with significant stipe bruising. And others that looked like the usual suspect but had what looks to me to be cap bruising?

You can see the center ones stipe is quite blue.

And correct me if I'm wrong, it seems these have cap bluing?

It seems like an unusual trait to exhibit for this species. Especially with no stipe bruises.

I think I'll send some to Jan for testing.

Can anyone drop me a bone here (besides wood chips and well manicured lawns?) lol trying apartments and small business's today.. I know this isn't the rookie cry here thread, but its the most effective way to reach the most experienced hunters in my area. Thanks for the rant.. back to the hunt

I started hunting this time last year and put in the hours that you are now. Came up empty handed. Spent the last year studying and writing down sites as I drove around the city. Still took me a few weeks after the start of my season this year to find my first ones. But once you find them, ID them and study their environment its get super easy after that! I find them every time I head out now! They are out there! Plenty for everyone!

These pics are the same spot, 1) wide angle 2) half zoom 3) full zoom 4) close up of clusters
Can you spot them in the first pic?

Yes they are! After my post above, I headed out for today's hunt... and came home early having found a new patch already. Small, but good enough for me to take nine matures. This makes my sixth find in three weeks. And I'm new at this! They really are out there! I've put in so many hours I've begun to wonder if I've come unhinged... but it is paying off. :tongue2:

I spent all of last year searching with No luck! I had no job at the time so I had days worth of hunting under my belt, decided to just grow my own and spawn them in my back yard that went successful with my own home grown cyans, wasn't a prolific patch or anything..

I still had the bug to find my own and this year I finally did, let me tell you it's definitely worth the wait! I had many dissapointing days last year and this year the key is to never give up, it's pretty special time when you find your first real patch, it's like it was meant for you! Another good rain tonight and this weekend will push out these final flushes, don't know if many more will be flushing as its starting to get cold quick and this season was early and prolific at least for me. My main spot is definitely on the way out, nothing like brewing those fresh fruits though

I went around to my patches today and hand watered them to help them along, some were dried out and almost dying from the past few days of minimal rain an heavy wind luckily I got there just in time to help them get as big as possible before the seasons over for this spot. It's not like they're super common either, they're still rare mushrooms and only really grow up here in the PNW, they're just the most common wood lover in this state, you still gotta have the right substrate, consolidation the time they've been in the location, and the spores gotta be there to fruit. You can have the perfect conditions and perfect habitat for fruiting and there could be none there, come back next year there could be a huge patch. You never really know, it helps to know the right areas to look for and at the right time, even then your still not guaranteed to find any, just appreciate that your lucky enough to have access to these beautiful specimens and they grow in your back yard! Such a small % of the world population is even into psilocybes, mostly concentrated in this state be happy we're at a higher level from a concious stand point :mushroom2:

I plan this year to spawn a bunch of woodchips of azzies, cyans allenii in spring to random locations

Here's a few more specimens exhibiting blue in the cap margin. Lil in the base of the long one too.

They've sat on the counter since I picked them slowly drying to see if the cap stayed blue through the hydrophanous color change.

That's cool. I don't think I've ever found a pelli that shows so much of a bluing reaction.

Acb and I have a theory they're getting stronger up here on the kitsap peninsula. Every year we find more and more that blue quite strongly in the stipe. This is the first time I've ever seen it in the cap as an adult.

Last year in nearly the same spot, so I'd imagine they are the same patch, I found these pins with rather blue caps.

It seems all of the Psilocybe wood lovers at least this year have been very potent as well, much more so than what I am use to. I am finding Cyans to be 3x as potent as the common cube easy.

I have one patch of pellies i pick every year that does this

but bluing has nothing to do with potency and is no good way to guage it

I don't think I'll ever take more than 2g of azzies again. These are killer. I can't imagine missing out on these for so many years. Should've moved here 6 years ago like we were going to.

Microdosing for pain/inflammation is working if anyone cares. That's more along the lines of 0.2g though. Hope to have some pictures for you guys after this weekend.

went to a different park than i usually do today, ended up finding millions of pins across a 30 x 30 ft area. Whoever started that patch, god damn... too bad its right in the middle of everything and they will never reach maturity.
