I uploaded larger images on my last post to get a better look at environments and those beautiful mushrooms. I am also more into the hunt these days. I guess it may have to do with being an old fart.

I got the same book, but you should look into getting the "National Audubon society field guide to north america mushrooms" by Gary H. Lincoff as well. It can save to a lot of research, and has quality pictures.

Good luck for those in PDX. I walked probably 50 miles in the past  few days back and forth of some parks, churches, etc. The only thing I found was a destroyed patch in one of the parks with mycelium spread everywhere. I know where to look, I know how they look like, I just can't find any, at all. Good old times in Brazil where I could find 100+ cubes in the field.

These wood lovers are much more camouflaged than I thought they could be I think. Amanitas though, those bastards are everywhere I look. Found a spot with probably 50+ growing gregariously.

Well, at least I'm not sedentary anymore

In PDX most of the easy to find patches are well known and get raped to shit the first week of the season.  It's funny, I thought the active hunting would be awesome when I got here, turns out is was better in PA where I had miles of ovoid territory where I was the only active hunter.  Here you find some, wait for them to grow a bit and the patch gets obliterated the next day.   The destructive harvesting methods also keep the patches much smaller than they could be, in PA I found a patch that covered a good half acre of ground, you could harvest 10 pounds and still not have everything.  Portland could be that good if retards stopped mining the patches and showed some respect to the fungus.

I've started a few discrete patches in low traffic areas and get enough for my own needs.  If you really want actives in PDX and you're tired of the competition you should just start your own patches.

You can drive a bit to clear cuts around Mt. Hood and find pelliculosa though.  I have yet to find any semilanceata, baeos, stunzii or anything like that, I think they're more rare in Stumptown than they are in other locales in the PNW.

I found Ovoids in Portland a couple years back. Seems they are making their way out west.
It is a bummer on how local spots get destroyed so fast but there are plenty of new spots surfacing every year.  Oh, and Starting your own patch is a simple solution and highly recommended. I bet there are topics about propagating your own mushroom garden on this site with a little searching.

Is this the actives thread? Or the PDX whine and speculation thread?

Came back to this last night after spotting some pins this weekend.  Ever since I found my first Cyans a few weeks ago I can't stop finding them!
