Pastureland, no animals were in sight
Damn, that makes it even cooler. I want to look for liberty caps in my area but from what I've gather over the years it kind of seems pointless. I don't know of anyone who has found liberty cap in the Willamette valley besides near Route 126 but that's not really in the valley anymore IMO.

Look anyway. If you don't find them in the next 12-14 years you'll at least find a fair collection of some various other interesting small innocuous grassland/dung mushrooms you'd never have found or noticed without targeting that area. I know all about that.

Not too bad. That dreary mix between being busy and under employed, in a drought stricken region but I've been keeping myself happy and engaged with one thing or another. How about yourself?
I believe the microscopy pointed to Deconica subcoprophila when Workman looked them over. I was struggling with incompetence and newbishness while trying to do my own microscopy. If my memory is sound they were pretty apparently growing from soil/pasture grass (not decaying grass mat) in a pasture in Butte County CA.

I know they're Psathyrella near my concept of P. gracilis, assuming that is still reasonable for PNW in these modern, DNA enlightened days. I also know this thread is not for id requests.

Last year I found my fist patch of cyans. All season long I looked for signs of someone else picking from it and found nothing.. in fact all season long there were no mushrooms missing so I came to the conclusion that if anyone knew about the spot they were gone, or they werent pickers.. well this year came around, been waiting patiently for the patch to mature a little. Found a lovely group of mature fruits yesterday...went back today to pick em and sure enough...they gone!!!
Mixed emotions since Ive found 2 more locations this season. I never wanted to live in the fantasy that it was MY patch, but months of picking with no signs of others led me to have false hope. The amount of experience Ive had this season is huge compared to the last 4 ive been doing this and all I can say is....if its in a public place, no patch is safe... ya go figure, cant believe I learned that one the hard way...

Found two new cyan spots in an hour of hunting today. One small patch was fruiting directly from a woodchip bed and the mushrooms were fairly dried out. Another was found in grass and the mushrooms are as fresh and healthy as can be. That seems to a big difference between this season and the past few seasons. This year, I've found almost nothing in exposed woodchip beds like I have in the past. The cyans are really thriving and getting big under vegetation though. Also, my backyard patch has produced one cyan, which is now down to half a cyan because of the slugs.

Everybody does. Another thing they often learn is that the less obvious places can host impressive patches too, and there's always another patch if you keep up the scouting. If nothing else, that scouting can give you mushroom specific stuff to do during spare time in the off season. If this season has been more productive than your first ones just know you've got it down now. All the best.

Same here. Cyanescens are fun, but I've got to get back to my roots.

Just wanted to share some images of a few Cyan patches I have stumbled upon in PDX. I have noticed some of them getting destroyed and well... That is just what happens with humans and the way they destroy their environments etc... )= Here is hope that all those tiny pins have a chance to mature but I bet they will be harvested before weeks end. I am excited to see so many new patches. It is also exciting that interest in these mushrooms is growing which gives me hope that some of the people taking these mushrooms may become more self aware and take better care of themselves, others and the environment. Oh and shame shame on those harvesting these sacramental mushrooms to sell. I feel that they should be free to those who want the experience. To bring $ into it is very sad and very abstract.
