N05482 said: Luigi, I'd consider comparing your gyms with g.thiersii. I'm not seeing any signs of bluing. Maybe some more pics would help. The damage on the few open caps should show some greenish tint, or a spec of blue here or there.
I've noticed too that luteofolius dry to a nice golden color the more purple ones retain that purple hue, while theirsii seems to dry much darker like a chocolate brown losing all purple.
Killer finds though! You and everyone!
Singingtree way to make a introduction! Gorgeous pic.
Okay thank you for the heads up! I will definetly do that! Do they both have rusty orange/yellow spore print? Cause these had that color print..

Im lovin the variety on here peeps. Such a great time of year! Had a bit of luck recently hunting with the lady. While we were there checkin them out a hunter, who could have possibly been a highschooler, walked along the landscaping. We exchanged smiles as he kept walking past us. Afterwards, While we were walking away with our plunder, I looked back to see him walk right up to the patch. this was our first experience running into another hunter. Im sure he was glad to see we only took a little handfull, leaving all the pins and since he already knew about the patch he wasnt doing any raping so not the worst of scenarios.
This makes my third find total(besides patches with one or two fruits) and my first with the lady...speaking of she used her awesome photography skillz!!!!

This year's Cyan cap sizes are impressive. Huge!

They look damn near identical, I've only noticed slight difference in pin shape and the speed in which the purple fades on the brim. The lack of blue dots to me is the biggest tell.
I'd pm Alan he's really good at spotting the differences.

So I went back for some pictures of the strange looking cyans I found, they have a much darker appearance compared to others I have seen. Patch was definitely mature for the most part with spores everywhere so that's a plus.

Maturity (while still fully hydrated) is one of the major factors in the darkness of thin fleshed Psilocybes. As the gills darken and the flesh is somewhat translucent it makes the surface of the cap appear darker, which influence will disappear when they begin to dry. The amount of pigment in the top of the cap is the other, and that is variable, and will be reflected by how pale they look as they begin to dry out.
The first factor will be more prevalent in the thinner fleshed, generally smaller species like P. semilanceata, P. pelliculosa but in general can be noticed in any where and while the apparent striation is visible from above.
--------------------
Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Keep your eye on what few areas have maintained a bit of irrigation through the summer anyway.
