I live in Bothell, I am not sure if I should be happy or sad or both, but I too have found some around home. Nice find either way!
This was my latest find. Not sure what is next to them, so I left those, but as i was walking by, I look down, and "Hello!" they sang to me!
look up at the top left, there are up there too, and under the nettles...yes, got it on my hands!
Love this time of year!
Left pins, only took the mature, ones, yes this was taken before the heavy rain recently...Working on getting some going in my own yard.
With the weather, we could see this season last a long time...

Did my night run. Lots of large, healthy cyans out there. I clipped some of the bigger ones I came across. Very healthy stems on them. Unfortunately, my habitat shots didn't turn out.
Conditions seems very prime right now.

Been hunting everyday with no luck finding actives(to my abilities being able to tell) but its always fun finding random interesting mushrooms, like this little guy. Was kinda surprised to see the blue around the edge of the cap.

Anyone ever find actives growing on church property? Always kinda thought that would be cool. Churches and police stations

Speaking of churches.. with it being Halloween and all, be careful hunting around them as well as cemeteries. Great way to get pinched.
Also anyone hitting the coast be aware of any weather alerts. Things can go wrong fast with 30-50mph gusts especially if you're alone and unprepared.. those of you on bikes be careful for cars on wet leaves... every hunter deserves to come home safe and sound, empty handed or not.. use your best judgment in going in far out areas alone. Soil can be very loose and dangerous on embankments with localized flooding etc
Sorry to post off topic here, hopefully some of my spots will pop today and I'll have sexy pix, good luck this weekend everyone!

Thanks for your concern. Safety first. I usually hold a "safety meeting" to prep for a hunt. But that's really just code for... well, you know.

This has nothing to do with fungus, but I just wanted to say Happy New Year and Samhain ...or Halloween for others! As a side note, For those who recall, I was going to move to Kent and happily didn't now that I know how scary that place is. Living on/surrounded by a Reservation is a bit creepy, though. Weird stuff going on around here. Including the fungi. It's as though everything and everyone is a glamour. Have a great rainy day!

I just ran into two other hunting groups at my patch of cyans. I knew it had been picked by others!
Group one was a couple of young hoodlum types who paused to stare right at my spot, and while so doing, trampled one of the last four pins I knew of. I pretended to be occupied by my phone a ways down the path and didn't bother talking to them.
Group two was a couple of thirties-ish guys with tools and leather carry-pouches who looked more serious. They looked at my spot plus several more nearby. I had just decided to go chat them up when they must have realized I was hanging around too much, because one came up and introduced himself. We talked business, lamented all the kids who come and yank up half the pins and trample the rest, and he was pleasant to me and serious about his stuff. Since he offered to take nothing from the patch I've been babysitting this last week (not that there's enough for it to matter) I think I will skip looking closer at the other particular spots I saw them checking out. On the other hand he said the park is also full of blue ringers and liberty caps, so maybe I should start learning to spot those too...
Man, when I first got into all this learning and hunting stuff a month ago, I didn't know it was going to be so engaging and fun.
Happy Halloween!

Is it finally happening here in Portland? I tried going out earlier, but I got sketched out because people seriously don't know how to drive in the rain here. I counted 4 accidents within 10 minutes, and I was soaked since I ride a scooter, so I just threw in the towel and went home. Just a little too much excitement for me today. Would love nothing more than to see some beautiful Portland cyans though.

It's been happening in Portland for a month now. Only way to find them is to get out there. I've been finding patches in ten minutes or less in most parks.

Remember folks, give back when you take. Stem butt cultures are incredibly easy to make and almost guarantee a new patch when planted properly.

Wow, maybe I just need to up my hunting game. It was easy pickings when I lived in the central Washington coast area. I've been looking in railroad service areas where they've cleared alder and blackberries, woodchip piles, disturbed areas off the side of the bike trails, random wood chip beds, etc and have had no luck. I have also looked around several walking trail areas, many of them with wood chips or mulch. I have not checked many parks. I'm definitely going to get some stem butts from the only area I've found producing this year, in Vancouver Wa. Portland needs more cyans. I'm going to check on that area tomorrow rain or shine.

So I was out for a walk in a local park, casually looking for cyans and taking pictures of interesting mushrooms when it dawned on me, the police dump the manure from their horses in a field near by. I decided to take a look and two steps into the field, bingo! Some were bruising blue at the base, didn't manage to get it on camera. The whole field was full of them, right from the officer's ass. Thanks PPD

It amazes me that my park got raped again. They took woodchips again too, and since it had just broken the storm, I knew my suspicion was correct and tracked them.. I found maybe 15 or 20 species but no actives, a lot they missed.. I almost got fooled. Whoever is doing this to the park is the reason why it's not doing anything this year. Stop raping Keizer and picking every single mushroom to just throw in the path. I found a few spots they didn't drag ass through. I'm going to Portland or the coast in the morning. Central Willamette is "doing kinda okay but not really" seems to be the general consensus.
You know the worst part about this person picking every single type is they throw them everywhere! Half a field away there's kids playing soccer and you're going to huck amanitas all over the place? Jeeze. everything was pulled like a carrot.. if I can find any actives this season I'll be throwing spore water and my spawn around... I hate to be a negative Nancy about it but you know; have some respect for the park and the hobby.. I hope whoever is doing this stops.

It'll never stop, that's just how some people are. Be it ignorance, inconsideration, or idiocy, they will always be harming patches.
The only thing we can do about it is spread patches, I hope to put some azzies in portland in the next couple of years. Working on some azzie spawn now
