I meant to discribe habitat: Fine dark mulch. The kind that looks like bagged potting soil. About 1 year old. Hopefully that helps somebody needing some tips.

This....is a day of days. I haven't hunted for years so I was a bit worried about hunting this season. Thankfully my hard work seems to have paid off. These guys were very young and in a bit of a microclimate type of spot. The rest of the area is just about dry as a bone. I will check on these fellers in a couple of days. I got lucky finding these, thank you mushroom gods. And good luck with your trip Lieutenant.

Do any of you take prints and slip them under the mulch or turn them into solution and "water the plants"...?

Hi Guys, Decided to take in a few cyans from the microclimate patch I've been watching rather than let them shrivel any further. Unfortunately, a lot of small pins look totally dried out. I'm seeing no fruiting elsewhere.

i think those are galerina.. no bruising.. kinda look off to me.
i'd spore print and tread with caution.

Not sure why you'd say that. Several of the stems show bluing where they were cut and the gill shot shows some nice bluing especially the large one in the center.
Looking good silky! Sometimes is better to get em when you can before they dry out. Often though I let much of the first flush rot to ensure the patch survival.

There's definite blue bruising all over these, though perhaps not so evident in the photos due to the light. You can see it if you enlarge and look closely at the gills of the center cap of the first photo.
That said, I agree with you that these mushrooms look a bit different than other cyans I've collected. I was going to suggest allenii?
In any case, you've motivated me to take out the SLR, and I've tried to get a better close-ups here. Below are three random samples from the mushrooms I posted earlier. I believe you'll see bluing on the gills, where the stem was cut at the cap and also on the stem. You'll also see purple spores dusting the cap of one that fell from the mushrooms above it.
Obviously, if these are the wrong thing, I appreciate the advice. So if any of the myco masters (TIs) here could weigh in, that'd be great even though this isn't an ID thread.
Cheers!
