Yeah I noticed that too.
I always try and at least keep a pocket knife on hand, makes it pretty easy.

Someone just told me there's a patch in my town where he comes out with pounds. I'm going to be riding my bike all over town this weekend trying to find good spots to hunt once the rains come. Bikes are perfect for hunting

I've been picking for over 13 yrs now, and have never used a dam pair of scissors , I usually pinch at the base, picking with the myc. still attached , is ok in my book, at long as you are picking from a patch that is prolific ,Root butts are the easiest way to develop spawn, to start new patches imo.

When I was picking last season I would grab a couple with the butts and clip the rest
All you need really is one or two and you can start as many patches as you want if you just keep cloning the colonies you start.
I have never seen a huge patch though, I am sure I would feel a bit differently about that

ive noticed over the years the shared patches that were obviously pulled only have one flush. Others that get clipped seem to actually produce more fruit and seem to spread. I'm curious if mushrooms are the same as plants. Example of pinching the tops of MJ causes the cytokinenes to create a bushier plant. I think mushrooms cyans and other cespitose mushrooms to be exact have some kind of enzyme or like plants (growth regulators) that either signals them to fruit and spread or to halt fruit production and smith gears into spreading mycelium.... Neither is bad or good just what it does.. Idk. Just a theory.

It's not wet enough yet where I'm at.. I took a few looks around some public parks and around some slightly wooded areas and around nearby apartments heavily laden with woodchips. I'd imagine fungicides or pesticides are used heavily around these areas.
Still too dry but worth looking and scoping out the areas to just blend in with crowds or others.
Supposed to rain fairly well in the next week. Not getting my hopes up yet as I haven't picked in over 5 years and don't know the area well.
Here's hoping and best of luck (and congrats) to all of you.

From what people say it's unusually warm and dry for this time of the year. It's getting 85+ in the sun but hoodie, jeans and hat 6pm-6am. It's "rained" for about an hour a handful of times in the past 3 weeks. Not enough to see banana slugs.
