Microclimates are definitely a thing. Something else that's good to keep in mind: the urban heat island effect. Even though Seattle froze in November just like everywhere else, temps did not fall quite as low as they did in outlying areas, and this could make a difference in whether mycelium decides to quit for the year.
Consistent with that, my two patches in the city are still pinning - albeit getting raped again - while my four spots outside the city have been totally dead since the frost.

Also don't forget that bacteria in mulches and chips release heat. Everything on the surface may look ugly, but the myc underneath may be fine, and after a cold shock may want to throw up as many fruits as possible before a true frost hits.

I visited my microclimate spot yesterday (directly next to a building, covered by vegetation) and there are a handful of cyans in edible condition still there. It doesn't look there's any more pinning in any of my spots.

Parisian_goldfish: To be clear, I don't know how much of a difference it makes. It stands to reason that it could, but I am no expert.
Meanwhile, I forgot I had a pic of my takings a couple days ago.

At the time - 12/7 - there at least a couple hundred pins but nothing mature. I took these out of fear there'd be nothing left next time I came back, and I was right. On 12/10 I went back and found the big patch empty and trampled all to hell, and at the other one just a few were left. That park is a lost cause. But I did get some stem butts to culture, and they are going to go towards colonizing other parks.

Whatcom County: It's not a very good strategy to uncover and leave the Mycilium(Super thick.Huh?!) exposed after checking a spot. More specifically up in BD P. Please check all you like. Just put the leaves back. Its getting cold at night. Thank you. (Not animals. The crater design is to symmetrical.) Plus cig buts are a dead give away.

Nope, sorry aj. Wasn't in your state. I'm glad you found what you were looking for. Those are some nice pictures.
If your real name is your handle here, you should delete your pictures and make a new account. That's poor OPSEC man. This isn't Facebook.
Be careful of some of the people you meet picking. There are some pretty twisted vagrants all up and down the coast, and people looking to bust you with a felony for picking. Have situational awareness and don't be stupid, don't be an asshole, and know your rights. Try to give back to that from which you've taken.. maybe throw spore slurry in microclimates.
Don't forget this is something people can go to jail for, pay hefty fines, lawyer fees, court fees, and probation are also possibilities. You should take the advice of the older heads here. Delete your posts, start anew.
You are passionate and that is a redeeming quality and a strong moral value. I would hate to see something happen to you.

1. I don't meet people picking. I drop my hat and run. 2 I had 2 park rangers drive past me slowly half a dozen times today and look in the thickets while I had my iPhone in my hand taking pictures all day. Picturesque 3: identification of any mushroom for photographic purposes will always be legal, unless the bag of mushies is in your hand. Thanks for the tips and pm's recently.
Also- found these near pacific city

Also, have respect for MUSHROOMS, please. Shroom this and Shroom that...I was getting close to trust that my fellow man liked more than just "shrooming". Apologies, just have respect for and to molds, spores and fungus. I suppose that makes me a fucking asshole.

Total agreement here. Do whatever you want, unless it's breaking the forum rules nobody has any authority here to try and influence somebody against doing what they do. If that was the way the world worked. We'd all be grey blobs in a world of grey doing the same grey shit we always grey.
ANYWAYS,
SEASON IS NOT OVER! A buddy and I went back out a couple of days ago and found pins and pins. Not many mature and they were most often lone soldier's in the field. Found a couple of sparse patches, always careful to leave some for reproduction. This sexy beast was STARING me down from the parking lot, and was my indicator that there was yet hope in the pick to come. Only scored this one pic, too busy getting stoned and enjoying the chicken pickin.

Hello all. My name is Bobby , I've been lurking this site --and this thread specifically-- for about 6 weeks now. This is my first season hunting mushrooms. I've always have an eyes aimed downward in the fall, but since stumbling upon a new (and weak) urban patch of Ps. Cyanescens I've had some decent luck finding a few other well established patches that were right under my nose.
I have a patch that was pinning just as the first round of frost hit last month. I insulated with leaves and monitored them for about 3 weeks. They seem to have all survived the older ones have reached maturity. And the patch is still pinning!
I have been competing with a few of those tiny slugs. I'm wondering if it is best to pick them a bit early, or wait for full growth and then snip out any possible slug bites..
I have been VERY picky with what I keep and what I toss in the slurry pile, I'd just like to hear what you all think as far as what is safe vs wasted.
Today's haul: [image]http:// [/image]
Typical specimen: [image]http:// [/image]
Slurry candidate, questionable quality. What do you think? [image]http:// [/image]
Habitat (sorry for the bad shot, I don't want to draw attention to this high profile location.) [image]http:// [/image]
