Do you have a link to that thread?
Seems like a big risk. Doesn't sound good for you either I would imagine. Of course we already would have had an answer if science was still allowed to study controlled substances freely.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is commonly used to treat certain types of acute movement disorders.
I don't think the cause is due to "histamine" in the wood-lovers. We don't know the toxin responsible or exactly how it works, but it is likely it has some affinity for the histamine receptors, and/or interferes with dopamine-modulated movement, causing paralysis, difficulty initiating movement, cramping, and/or dystonia.
If the H1 blockers like Benadryl work as treatment, it is very likely that the H2 blockers (cimetidine (Tagamet), ranitidine (Zantac), famotidine ( Pepcid ) will work as well, with less sedation.
Benadryl (H1 blocker) and all three of the above H2 blockers are available over the counter. I would like for you PNW guys to try this out and report back with your findings.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7556545
From Wikipedia on diphendyramine (Benadryl):
As a potent antagonist to acetylcholine in muscarinic receptors, diphenhydramine is used to treat Parkinson's disease-like extrapyramidal symptoms caused by antipsychotics. The muscarinic receptor antagonism leads to correction of levels of dopamine, the neurotransmitter responsible for control of motor function in the brain, similar to the effect of other antimuscarinic agents such as atropine.

So... it's all frosty over here, inland - can anyone tell me what's going on on the Oregon coast? Can any folks out there tell me if it's frosty on the mid & north coasts? Worth a trip or not?

Went for a walk again this morning (found some yesterday too) and found these, rock hard, damn frost. Yeah it was me complaining two weeks ago about not finding anything in Portland. Apparently I was checking all the right places but my timing was wrong, and now they're all were I think they would be but all frozen heh
By the way, they're damn near invisible to me. Most of the caps barely stand above the chips and I'd certainly skip those which aren't bruised if I didn't pay very close attention. For those that only hunted dung lovers, it's so much harder. Wood chips are not a well define space like a pile of poop and P. cubs. and Pan. cyans. are impossible to miss.

Good job! They can be real hard to spot when theyre all dry like that too! Grow some mycelium with those stem buts and spread it around town! Operation Cyanify Portland!

Yes yes yes, put those butts to use.
I thought it was operation spore PDX now, but cyanify Portland works.
Do it, do it now!!!!

Careful if you're driving in the foothills. Watch for shadowed spots; obey all signs they're there for a reason. Watch the grades when you go around turns. And watch them logging trucks crossing over the center line. They love to do this apparently.
If you're coastal hunting you'd better be planning on doing it today, or better yet, already back from your hunt. Get out there or you'll regret it like I am now. I'd kill to just be walking on the beach.

For sure, butts were put to use and I bought a bag of alder chips. Unfortunately the caps were long dead to sporulate (I tried).

How long until soaked chips in a jar with a butt or two thrown in will start to colonize? It's been 48 hours and no activity yet...

I got worried at 48 hours and 12 hours later it went nuts. They're on hour 72 reaching to hold hands with each other and are funneling their way up through the hollow dune grass/straw in there. They are resilient you should be fine. I noticed azzies need a lot more FAE, which makes sense since they're always in that sea breeze. Cyans I can't help with but they're basically the same. What do your jars look like?

Its been REALLY dry out here in Astoria the past few days. Its been quite cold at night as well but no frost or freeze yet. Went out for a few hours yesterday and the picking was scarce as hell. The only spots where I was finding anything other than little blue aborts in the grass were the protected wet spots near the tree line. Most of the booms I did end up finding were over mature and were only good for slurry and spore prints for some patches next year, and these later flushes just don't seem to hold the same potency as the past couple before them. All the specimen I DID acquire were quite sizeable for my usual finds. The dryness of the sands and grass really transferred to the mushrooms too, all of them seemed very sandy and dry to the touch.

Didn't you guys literally just get a 50/40 split with rain today? I witnessed a frost in Astoria. It was pretty bad, but nothing like you will be getting soon. If I was there I'd be picking right now or tomorrow morning. People are still cleaning up but no new fruit bodies from what I've seen here and in person. You *might* have a shot, I don't know, I'm not there. If you're walking through frost and not finding anything, walk through and scout potential areas as the frost melts to dew. The frost hides them well, but if they're frozen, be forewarned they'll rot quick. Some of my best looking finds turned to wheat, and wheat ones turned brown by the time I left the area. That's just from being in a bag held a little further from my body warmth, so it didn't take much of a rise in temps to be ruined.

Today I was hunting for non active mushrooms (turkey tail and oyster) when I came across a patch of cyans (huge guys). There has been frost the last few nights here in Seattle, and as I have not been out looking for active mushrooms this season I don't know if the leaf litter nearby protected these guys. I was wondering if the Frost has damaged the mushrooms when they look tan and firm/dry... ( they are not mushy or blue/black like some often become after a frost) I haven't picked actives in years but still ID them bright beacons in the chips. They are dry and tan with bright blue bruising all over as well as being small pins that are clearly identifiable in the same clusters do you guys pick this late in the season or let sleeping dogs lie if they're still good I'll hit my buddy up and let him know where they're at if not so be it better luck next year Cheers

The frost hit these, they didn't turn black and mushy like they usually do. ..they're still super firm, there are easy to Identify pins attached too, but are they safe or does the frost/drying out do something bad ? I told my buddy not to pick then until I asked ya'll....I hunted turkey tail today and haven't been in the active loop for years, so I wanted to ask pros. ...tonight it may snow though, so it's a race against time if I tell him to go to town on the patch

I saw some nearly as high as my knee in blue-green groves of conifers and moss. Even saw a few growing 10 or more feet from the tree line in dune grass which I assume was high in decayed needle content. They've been everywhere I've gone, even open fields. It's hard to go hunting and not see them.

Pells from last week

Cyan stem butts. I cut 2x4 in cardboard, soak in rain water for 1-2 hrs Put butt in middle and fold over... Put into egg carton... 12 at a time if you got them Spray every other day to keep moist... Store indoors for 1-2 weeks Plant on dirt under wood chip pile... Seems to work for me
Fear even the pells are going to freeze this week! Dang
Peace
