What kind of mushroom is this?
    #22187299 - 09/04/15 10:31 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Hi there everyone. I'm new so I hope I'm posting this within the guidance.
Unfortunately my camera isn't great.

Here are the pics to start:

It was found in the midlands, UK, today.

Habitat was short, unmown grass. 2 yards from a tree stump (don't know what kind of tree it was and about 10 yards from various kinds of pine trees.

I walk the path where it grew everyday and didn't see it at midday but noticed it at 4:30pm so I believe it could be a very freshly sprouted mushroom when first picked.

Colour of the cap very pale creamy when first picked with an orange spot at the top of the cap. The colour has since faded to a browner creamy colour at the bottom of the cap with an orange/brown spot on top.

Colour of the gills when first picked was the same as the bottom of the cap (creamy & pale) but these have since faded the same to a creamy brown.

Stem as in the picture. I made a bit of a hash of picking it as it was (I believe) so fresh so the stem should have been another centimetre longer. There is no discernable bruising discolouration of the stem since picking and I pinched the bottom to test for this.

Scent is musty, mushroomy.

Unfortunately, I had to carry it 3 miles home in my hands and I think it has suffered a bit as a result. Because it was moist and sticky when picked it stuck to my hand if this information is at all useful.

Apologies I haven't taken a spore print.

Would be very appreciative if anyone can help identify this mushroom and hope I haven't committed any faux pas in my first post.

Thanks, appreciate the quick response.

As an experienced poster what are the features that set it out as that as opposed to any other similar species?

It's yellow with yellow gills and frail like a piece of wet tissue paper. If you're looking for Psilocybes they have purple/gray gills.
