No I've never experienced virtual reality.
You said that like it was just a normal thing to do lol
And furthermore what do you mean? Like playing the sims or wearing one of those goofy fucking contraptions on your head?
I'd say when I did LSD and mushrooms last, I WAS virtual reality.

Bro just put on a blindfold and meditate while tripping and manifest you're own virtual reality. Ignore the shape-shifting demons tho, they just want to scare you.

Thinking about getting an Oculus Rift development kit version for 350 bucks this Feb. for my birthday.
I have ALWAYS wanted to use VR and VR tripping is only logical.

Consumer Version is due out at the start of next year, don't pick up the Dev Kit that late in the run.
I have a DK2, but have not used it on psychedelics. Cannabis yes though.
I do not think psychedelics would be very comfortable in the Rift. I already experience issues with motion sickness (actually sim sickness, but feels the same) from certain games.
There are some interesting meditation experiences available for the Rift though, so perhaps those would work. Really a matter of choosing appropriate content for the trip I suppose -- in VR set and setting would still matter.

I'm an avid gamer, but usually can't stand videogames when I'm tripping. I want to experience life to it's full breadth, not an artificial subset of it! I don't think virtual reality would appeal to me in that mindset either
Though I can't wait til it is a consumer ready product!

I kinda agree with this. I can really only watch movies and listen to music for so long while tripping, eventually I gotta get outdoors
I don't know why people are acting as if virutal reality is this crazy thing, its not THAT expensive to buy a VR headset anymore. I really wanna buy an occulus rift, I will at some point

I heard they were definitely planning on releasing VR for PS4, but that Xbox one was still in rumor.
What kinds of things can you do with an occulus rift? Doesn't there have to be specific games/programming that's compatible? What would be the point of having the device, if there's no infrastructure set up to use it with???

An Oculus Rift is essentially a headset with two small high quality screens in front of each eye, and then stereoscopic lenses in order to make viewed images appear as though they are in the person's immediate vicinity and could be reached out and touched. The headset also runs a headtracking feature that means wherever you physically turn your head to look, in a full sphere around yourself, you actually look around in the virtual environment.
Games and movies made specifically for the Rift are generally better experiences. A movie will be made to feel like a 3d space you can look around in while it is playing, and a game becomes a sensation of moving through a physical map. This is actually where the sim sickness comes in, because the body does not experience the sensation of movement, but the mind feels as though it is moving.
For games that are not designed with Rift support in mind, there are programs like Virieo Perception and VorpX which turn the signal into a 3d compatible signal.
VorpX allows me to play games like Skyrim and Grand Theft Auto 5 in virtual reality with a great experience; I can look down at my feet and see a depth to the way the grass sways around me. My graphics on both are cranked way up and they look spectacular.
Certain experiences are not made with VR in mind and can be very uncomfortable when translated into 3d though. I can adventure or race my cars around for hours and feel fine, but if I hop on my dirtbike for a single mountain race in GTA, I feel like I'm going to hurl before the race is over, and they average under 5 minutes. I do not experience motion sickness outside of VR in any circumstances I have been through.
Would also like to get myself an omni-directional treadmill to use as a controller for gaming, so that I could get exercise while gaming instead of the two being seperate, and experience the games worlds in an even more immersive way.
If you are interested, seem to recall Oculus' press conference at E3 this year talking about their efforts with Microsoft for VR, there was mention of Xbox but it may have had something to do with streaming Xbox games through PC to the Oculus. Going to watch it again shortly, so maybe I can grab a time stamp.
Also has details about their plans for launch and their new controller Oculus Touch which should make experiences feel a bit more hands on than current controllers.
Sony has their own separate VR headset project called Morpheus though, have no insights on that. =/

So how do you like the Rfit? Is it even comparable to normal gaming as far as immersion or is it in a league of its own?
I would play Minecraft tripping.

Consider it to be in a league of its own. The Oculus provides a sense of space and position that cannot really be expressed through a screen.
The combination of factors really makes it encompassing. The 3D effect makes me feel like I am inside of the confines of what is normally viewed through the screen. The wrap-around effect of the field of view means that the virtual world is all that can be seen in any given direction; couple this with the head tracking that ensures that looking around is a natural motion, and the experience becomes something to really fall into.
Have had some great experiences with my Rift, and am looking forward to the CV launch -- will be picking up the new model when they come out for certain.

For smart phones there is the Samsung Gear VR. Can tell you little aside from that, do not even own a cell phone.
Oculus is computer-based; simply plugs into the PC or laptop and the graphics capabilities are basically at the quality of whatever the system can put out.
There is a variety of porn, and I can provide feedback on a very small portion of it. Have personally only watched two videos; they were done by a company called oculus real porn, and were basically 180 degree POV videos. The experience is a little wierd, and there was a scene where they guy whose POV it was filmed from reached out to grab the chicks hair that was temporarily spatially disorienting as I saw "my" arm move without feeling it. For fun, my girlfriend sat through the same video -- she actually jumped a little in surprise when it hit the time stamp where his arm moved.
To my comprehension, there are other experiences where the viewer is in more control over the content, but cannot give feedback on any of them.
