Good question. I've never taken prints off these, but have people asking for them. Do I just pull one off and put it on foil?

Seems this guy just does it like a spore print.
Just plucks em off and turns them over on something! Google search came up with other examples all pretty much the same!
Good luck guys Hope all turns out well for ya!

This is what I came up with, we'll see if it works. The teeth weren't real long, but they were getting brown spots. I just skewered them and hung them over aluminum foil. Then I covered the top.

Awesome! 12 hrs later and I have nothing that I can see. Maybe mine weren't mature enough?

Yeah those look a little immature for getting many spores yet, but it could happen. You might try turning them so that the tines are facing downward - the direction they were growing so if there are any spores they'd fall out...

I'll give that a shot. If nothing else, I have another cluster starting to tooth out on the deck now. I'll let those get pretty far along before I harvest and try again.

No spores. Guess they weren't mature enough yet. I had to sacrifice them to the butter and garlic gods! I'll try again with the ones still growing on the deck.

I still haven't gotten around to my spores ><
I just plan on taking prints from them when you start to see the top of the mane drooping like in my picture.
I didn't get a tun of spores as I did direct contact on tinfoil. This may or may not fail. Lets find out lol.

Yea you might have to wait until one gets a bit passed its prime to get good spore quantity. Yes the pins or fingers whatever you call them need to be focused downward

I would want to try luck finding on in forest if it's climate is suitable for them in country. But if not maybe you could share some spore prints?

I'd heard that lion's manes shoot their spores out like little projectiles. What has worked well for me recently is gently enclosing the fruiting body with a sheet of baker's/deli tissue and giving it 3 or 4 days. The prints came out really uneven on the paper but made some thick deposits in spots. I'd never tried growing lion's mane from spores before but it turned out to be pretty easy. Some failed but more did great.
An image of one of the first fruiting from those spores.
These sure can grow fast as it only took around 14 months from spore to first fruiting.
A contaminated try (or at least I believe the small drops of liquid are due to a contaminant)
A try that worked (gaps are due to transfers)
