Cakes and Grains. What Would You Do?

So I have 9 half-pint brf jars colonizing with F+. They're almost fully colonized, but 2 of the jars are coming along a little slower.
I also have 5 pint-and-a-half jars of rye colonizing with Burma. Those should finish together.
I was thinking of building a sgfc for the cakes since they won't all finish at the same time.
As for the rye, I was thinking I should build a separate fruiting chamber like a monotub. The rye will be done about a week or two after the cakes.
What say you, Shroomerites? What would you do?

Do exactly what you said. Cakes need a fruiting chamber to pin and fruit(duh!). SGFC is the best option for fruiting cakes, just make sure to let consolidate then dunk and roll before exposing to fruiting conditions.
Monotub will work best with grain spawn IMO. Self automated, very little effort, and you just have to plug holes with polyfil to go from colonizing to fruiting. All in one tub. You'll want to use a pasteurized substrate to spawn to bulk once your rye is ready.
Did you inoculate with MS?

Yeah, I used MS. I want to get into agar, but I also want to make sure I get it right with cakes and grains before I go there.

Agar will do wonders. It guarantees clean grain spawn with proper sterile technique. I'm with you man, my first bulk grow I went straight from MS to grain. But now, I would never ever go from MS to grain. Even though I never really had any major issues with MS to grain, it is a poor decision in this hobby. For one, even if your mycelium looks clean, and smells clean, there still can be contams hiding in there, which you wouldn't know about without coming from agar. Some people have trouble getting MS to colonize straight onto grain, was never an issue with me. Another poop shoot with MS to grain, is that every grain jar you inoculate is technically a master jar, each one will be have its own genetics. So when you throw em all in to bulk, you really dont know what to expect.
Not saying it wont work, it will, most people just avoid MS to grain to bulk because of the unknowns that are involved. If anything, I would g2g your best jar to more grain and then spawn to bulk.

If I took a spore print of some of the nicer ones, would that help preserve some of the genetics?

A spore print? No, not really. A spore print is going to drop thousands of spores, which is back at MS. When you use MS, you allow spores to germinate. The only really way to continue genetic traits, is with cloning and isolating. Instead of germinating spores, cloning is letting that exact same mycelium culture to continue its growth. Its just like humans, when male and female reproduce, the offspring will not have the exact same genetic make-up as mother/father. A clone will be always have the same genetic make-up of said human.
