megafauna, extinction 1

I would just like to preface, that I do think nature is neat and that we come from that strange soup of biological variability acting through time and space.
Big creatures like tigers are the target of many ecological campaigns. We are now trying to protect nature from us. In Africa, lion attacks are on the rise, yet one can shoot a poacher (poor local needing food), with no reprocussions. In India and Bangladesh, tigers still kill hundreds every year. Should we really be aiming to keep such creatures wandering so near? What are the ecological consequences of killing off the last big predatores? I theorise that their charisma, and our western detachment from nature has lead us to care too much for such creatures. Perhaps we just need to put the final bullet in these creatures and move on. Thoughts? I'm somewhat neutral, so I just want to see how others react to the idea of a world without tigers, lions, bears, wolves, hyenas, mountain lions. I would also add that this is most likely going to be reality at some point, weather we want these crewtures alive or not.

I cant really watch youtubes on this site because of my android tablet. The connection thing is a nice idea, but things adapt eventually, and I doubt killing the last tiher would ruin the ecosystem where they live completely

Would it be less offensive if it was an older gentleman? I am more concerned about creatures that actively kill people, being fought for by people who will not have to deal with them

You do make some interesting points but there is a difference between reducing animal populations for general safety and intentionally wiping out an entire species on earth for the hell of it
I think it would be safe to assume you're not a big #CecilJustice supporter

No, Im not. I think it is a bleedong heart liberal shitstorm for weak morons who havent accepted death, and who dont know how mean and short the life of a lion is. It amazes me how up in arms people got. It's like how people get when one cute kid dies, well five thousand die a day from the water they need to drink to live. The big differance is that this is a lion and lions are rotten fucks that kill cubs all the time. That lion at his age certainly did.
I dont know, is the differance really that big? We loose some beautiful creatures by killing them, but what is a small enough number? Should we keep them in zoos only? I dont like being wishy washy, and perhaps people should decide weather the danger is worth it.

All the starving children in the world are a result of mother nature's population control. Depleting natural resources and over reproducing. It's pretty simple and apparently as a society we can't solve world hunger and malnutrition.
But we can keep animals in cages. Zoos, preservation's and the like are all businesses (even the non-profit ones) with a bottom line. We've already greatly reduced the populations so they don't present a threat. I just don't see the reason to intentionally eliminate them further.

I disagree with your first premise, since to be true we would have to first assume nature 'tries' to control population and has some purose. We also must assume that this starvation is because of an overall lack of resources, which it is not. There is food, just not everyone gets a piece and we throw a ton away.
Perhaps where you live these populations are down to 'safe' levels. Those in California are going to be thinking different as their unhuntable mountain lion and new wolf population surge. Mountain lions can't be hunted well without dogs and using dogs is illegal there
