Pins growing on glass of brf jars
    #22183195 - 09/03/15 01:49 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Hey guys,
This is my second grow, I got a few jars in their consolidation period right now. There was a lot of condensation on the sides of the jars during the colonization period, and the mycelium seemed to have branched off the cakes on onto the sides of the glass.
Now it looks like I have some pins that are growing off the glass on one of my jars. They are ready to be birthed anytime now. Do I go ahead and birth them and do the dunk and roll? If I do that, those pins on the side of the glass will definitely get ripped off in the process. Or should I be letting them grow out of the jar?
What are everyone's thoughts?

Yes. Birth them. If they are in consolidation and start pinning that means the cake is ready to fruit. Put into fruiting and watch those babies grow!  :dancer:

Hello again, just wanted to follow up on my progress. I birthed them, it took around a week and a half to see pins. I had pins appear on two out of the three cakes.
One cake had a couple lovely pins growing, and they grew pretty fast

Another one had a bunch of pins on the top, they are taking forever to grow.

Now, from what I can tell from looking at one cake with the pins on top is, I overmisted and didnt provide enough FAE, which has caused the aerial mycelium to form around the top edges of the cake, and also the cakes might have dryed out at one point, which cause the top of two pins to split.
I hoping to be able to better regulate my misting schedule now (I had used a pump-up power mister before, and it would just completely drench my cakes. Now it broke and I got a regular misting bottle, and now I have better control with my mist).

Is there anything I can do to recover these pins? They are still growing, but the two have holes in the top and appear hollow on the inside. Do I have to pick those two, or can I leave them growing and see what happens?

Any input is appreciated  I got two more cakes in consolidation, so anything I learn with this batch, will definitely help the next!

So I didnt want to take any chances of having my cakes rotting. I ended up picking those two pins and cut them open, from the looks of it there wasnt any sign of rotting, and smelled like regular mushrooms. I threw them on the dehydrator
